ZOTAC Duel #59 - strenx Remains Dominant

Expectations were running high for this online test between some of Europe's strongest players in the last weekly ZOTAC Duel Cup before both DreamHack Winter 2010 events. Saturday, the turn-out was looking quite meager, but by the sign-up deadline, most of Europe's pro players had signed up and were ready to display their hard work.

Not only is it a good way to show what you have in store for the coming events, but at the same time the players can gauge and experience first-hand how their closest competitors are practising and what small mistakes they could use to their advantage, come the start of the event.

It was Shane "rapha" Hendrixson's next attempt to decide a ZOTAC Duel Cup in his favour, as he always likes to participate when in Europe in preparation of events. However, this time he quickly met up with his current Mousesports/SK-Gaming headquarters training partner, Anton "Cooller" Singov and this time around, the Russian managed to come out on top and the American All-star had to settle with 5-8th.

The Mousesports legend then had to come up against recent Intel Extreme Masters Season Five Global Challenge Gamescom winner, Marcel "k1llsen" Paul and on the two maps who will not be included in both DreamHack Winter Quake Live events, the Russian had to concede close and exciting losses. On the other map, Furious Heights, he won convincingly, therefore it can be assumed that a head-on battle between both at the event might prove to be more difficult for the German than for the Russian.

On the top side of the bracket, Fnatic's lightning star, Kévin "strenx" Baéza had secured himself a Grand Final spot after beating the Reason-Gaming Austrian, Richard "noctis" Gansterer. Both players had wreaked havoc in their previous matches, but the Grand Final was plagued by faulty internet connections and after two maps, Marcel "k1llsen" Paul gave up and forfeited the rest of the Best-of-Five in favour of the Frenchman.
