VN UK LAN: The Groupstage In Review

Posted by Daniel Jaffa Miller on 2011-01-30 16:49:00

This Sunday morning in Glasgow, Buchannan Street has been very chilly indeed. After we were sat outside freezing for half an hour, the doors were burst open and the players could not wait to compete against each other.

With the VETO map choice system in place, Strike came up top trumps as it was the preferred map for 6 out of the 8 teams.

To begin the group stages Team Infused.Tt looked promising in group A as they won their first two games with flying colours. In particular, the game versus DFMS was a personal favourite where they demolished them 21-3. Aligned with Infused sat the UK mix team, Amazing. The team were not as lively as Infused, however got the job done and done it effectively as they were the only team at the event to remain unbeaten in the group stages.

Infused were faced with a challenging game when they came head to head with Vital Gaming. The colossal game on Citystreets resulted in a 12-12 draw. Arguably, the ease in which Infused stormed through their first two games gave them a bit too much confidence, and Vital Gaming was there to smash it!

On top of all this close and tense play, unfortunately two teams found it difficult to pick up wins. DFMS and JUNKE were the pack of 10 who must have been disappointed with their performances in the group stages. Moreover, let’s hope things can change in the play-offs and the teams who are lacking in confidence can build it up to compete at their highest level possible.

Statement from Amazing’s very own Nathan:
"We all went into the groups feeling very confident but from the start Ono had keyboard troubles so he we didn’t have the start that we wanted. Playing Highjinx at first gave us a chance to settle down and get the comms going to settle nicely. The games against Ebonics & Derailed went as planned as we expected. Overall, we feel the LAN has been very successful so far and well organised and we will be taking first place … eAZ".

only thing i can suggest with the shoutcasting, youve got infused winning like 11-0 and you still spec junke, we dont really want to see people sit around doing nothing, get no frags and then die when we could see infused running around killing everything :D

Thats not what he is saying? He means spectate the infused players instead of JUNKE's players who do nothing while the infused players pick up kills yet they were still speccng JUNKE.

Either way both games were going to be one sided.

Amazing got similar round numbers but we knew there was a near impossible chance to do much due to not actually playing much together before LAN and having no tactics at all :)

But yeah, why watch thirdies when you can watch them :D
