With confirmed prize pots in place at both Insomnia45 and Epic.Eight the up-coming LAN season for what is the arguably biggest community in Call of Duty is in for treat.
First up this year is the up-coming Epic.LAN series, first debuting in Call of Duty 4 last November with Epic.Seven, the event has returned despite a poor attendance last time around. Held at Uttoxeter Racecourse, Staffordshire many attendees have commentated that it possesses an era of times gone by, bringing back nostalgia to many a person's mind. With twelve fully paid teams currently in attendance, as well at a further six in mid-payment this event is looking to be the competitive UK LAN event of 2012, featuring a £2,500 prize pot for just 24 teams with rock bottom ticket prizes.
With this event primarily being a BYOC event only the UK scene had previously shown interest, but after the organizers listened to declarations of interest from around Europe a limited amount of TuP tickets have been secured, at £80 entry per person, granting users full usage of a PC throughout the event. The precise specifications are yet to be unveiled, but they were featured at the last DreamHack Battlefield 3 exhibition so should possess enough power to run our beloved title to a capable standard.
Next up is the ever famous Insomnia series, making its 45th return this time at the Telford International Center. The event features an impressive maximum attendance of 3,000 participants, spread out over a range of games, including titles such as StarCraft II, CounterStrike: Source and League of Legends. Now that the discounted ticket period has ended BYOC entry will set you back a hefty £92.00, granting you access from Friday at 9am till the events closure on Monday at 4pm.
The community made a massive resurgence during last year's summer edition, seeing nearly forty teams in attendance, but after a disappointing turn-out during the winter edition the minimum prize pot for the tournament has been decreased to £1,000, increasing after twenty teams are fully committed. Although the competitive element of the event isn't as appealing as its younger rival, it boasts a whole host of exhibitions and games of massive proportions on the stage throughout the weekend guaranteeing that you'll be entertained.
There are due to be two more summer editions of these events, with the Insomnia series also returning during November but Call of Duty 4 needs to be supported now to ensure its continues success.
