The ESWC has announced today that the brand and all respective assets of the former Games Services company have been sold to

Stéphane Cosse and his company
DIP Communication. An alleged purchase sum of € 50,000 saw the brand ESWC change owner after the downfall of the company just three months ago.
The deal includes the purchase of the ESWC, "la Coupe du Monde des Jeux Vidéo", "la Coupe de France des Jeux Vidé" and a number of internet domains including but not limited to www.eswc.com, www.esworldcup.com and www.lacoupedefrance.org. The tournament system developped by Games Services and used at ESWC events was sold to Lan Festival for nearly € 1,500.
The person behind the purchase, Stéphane Cosse, is not an unfamiliar face in the world of eSports and has already made an appearance back in 2000 with his team and LAN centre
Adéclick. In May 2003 he was also responsible for organizing a tournament called
Clickarena which attracted the top teams from that time to battle it out for a cash prize of $ 50,000, a prize purse which was never paid out. Whether this spells disaster for future ESWC tournaments is yet to be seen but circumstances certainly could be better.
Other sources however reveal that Stéphane Cosse has been in talks with Fnac and several French cybercafes, as well as major French tournaments and this might be a good sign after all. Not forgetting that all core staff of Games Services have been rehired bar Matthieu Dallon and Aurélien Rougemont. Shelling out € 50,000 for the purchase also shows that there has to be a business plan behind this move but we will have to wait and see for the first results of this move.
