The CPL returning as a global league?

The Cyberathlete Professional League or short CPL has just removed their website and replaced it with a countdown timer, counting down to the first of May. With the new management of the CPL taking the brand to China, the CPL vanished from the global event scene and nearly a decade of worldwide events came to an end. Hovering below radar of most gamers, the CPL continued their activities in China and expanded their range under guidance of their new CEO Scott Valencia, who some might still know for his involvement in the CGS or WSVG. The countdown timer can also be found on the league website of the Cyberathlete Amateur League or CAL, although the CAL countdown timer is counting down from 96 days.

With the splash page being released, former CPL CEO Angel Munoz shed a bit of light on the situation via his Facebook page, stating that a relaunch of CAL is also imminent. Angel Munoz explained: "A few people have contacted me inquiring about CAL, since there's a new countdown on the site. While the domain is still controlled by us, as its in escrow until summer, we are not involved with CAL (or CPL) any longer. I did meet with one of the new owners a few weeks ago and he told me that they are definitely relaunching CAL... but that's all I know."

He also went on to explain "CPL was active in China for a couple of years but I think their plan is to relaunch it as a global league again. This is a little gossipy but what the heck: A couple of weeks ago the new owners asked me to forward to them my contacts at Valve, so they can renew the league's license to use their games. So I think we may get the old school games again. I may becomes interested in esports again, even if only as a spectator. :)"

This might as well mean the return of Counter-Strike 1.6 to the CPL and CAL and the relaunch of a brand which once took eSports and brought it to the public. Despite the controversy surrounding both Angel Munoz and the CPL brand, there is no denying that without either one of those, we wouldn't be this far in making eSports known.

this might be one of the biggest move in the comeback that esports has been making the last couple of monts (if you can even call it a comeback XD)

imo CPL needs to host also besides CS / CSS : QL / maybe BFBC2 if it hits the comp side (ESL rules are shite atm :x )
