The Antwerp eSports Festival site is live

Posted by Steven dfb Leunens on 2010-05-11 15:24:43
The website of the Antwerp eSports Festival has just gone live with more information on the competitions and the setup of the event.

Much anticipated by the competitive Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike Source and Enemy Territory communities, the Antwerp eSports Festival will beyond a doubt become one of the major highlights of this summer. Taking place from the 30th of July until the 1st of August, 2010, the stage is set for one of the biggest competitions of the Benelux. With the launch of the website, more information is given on how to travel to the event, how the overall setup will be and when payments will open.

As stated on the Antwerp eSports Festival website, payments will open on Wednesday the 26th of May 2010 at 19:00. With just 16 slots per tournament opening the slots will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. This basically means that each tournament starts off with a minimum of 16 slots that can be filled.

Because the organizers have only a limited amount of space and high end tournament PC's available, they have decided to let the signups determine which tournament will be awarded with more slots. Once the payments are opened, they will monitor the signups and judging by how fast each tournament fills up, the remaining slots will be granted to certain tournaments first. This ensures them that the most receptive communities are awarded with more slots and bigger prize purses.

actually its discusting how people are starting to get profits from all of this ...

AEF vs GJ

350€ vs 250€

same prizepot triggs

+0 thumbs
what about transport mate
+0 thumbs
lol, transport depends entirely of your location, there are countries that are closer to belgium and there are countries that are closer to croatia, not much that organizers can do about that or?
+0 thumbs
we now might as well consider putting entry fee to atleast 300 euros
27 months ago
+0 thumbs
I know what you mean dude, I mean people making PROFIT out of their business, HOW FUCKING DISGUSTING FML.

"making profit out of their business"

business is for making money

lmfao you're the ones calling it business, I call it organizing an event, im sure dfb doesn't focus on making money here but mainly just having a good event and the entry fee of AEF is what he thinks that he needs per team to get stuff sorted. deal with it.

aint got that much money lmao

32 × 350= 11200
32 × 250 = 8000

3200 euro difference, I doubt that the costs incurred by gamersject / aef are the same (croatia is cheap, isnt it?) As well as the possibility of a 144 team turnout stretched over 3 days (highly unlikely though) and the implications that has on the amount of TUP pcs needed... pretty dumb comment if you ask me. I could be wrong but w.e
27 months ago
+0 thumbs
yes you are wrong m8, I doubt that in belgium is as hard as in croatia to get so many decent pcs for lan not to mention general standard of people is lower here

DFB has spoken, so you are wrong.

did you calculate venue costs?
crew costs such as hotels, food, drinks?
stage, setup, branding etc?
overall dressup of the event?
media costs?

I could go on for ages - I think the prices are quite fair in comparison to other small and big tournaments out there :)

Actually it is discusting how are you trying to promote GJECT lan over AEF...

Their standard is higher, but so are prices. 350€ is normal fee.

I'm not at all trying to promote AEF over GJECT LAN and I think it's great that you guys are doing the event in Croatia. In fact I was the one who asked the newscrew to make a newspost about the event and give it as much love as it needed to make sure plenty of teams attend it ;-)

Different events, different setups, different prizes. Only normal :)
Just like Jens has a higher entry fee with TEX due to Denmark being even more expensive!
+0 thumbs
we never said you did, the more lans the better for all people involved in cod community (:

Dfb, I wasn't mentioning you in my post, I am being critical to Must and Virtuoso for trying to make GJECT look better vs AEF what is actually sad.

Don't understand why someone needs to involve in other peoples job.

You have your GJect LAN, organise it the way you want, don't judge others how they organise their LANs.

And for sure if there is something that is not ok with gamers as comunity ( like entry-fees etc ), there is Vita Nova who will try to solve this.

Balkan Mentality ftw
+0 thumbs
he is mixing up the gamersject organisators and players that stated their point-of-view on this situation...

the AEF is the largest COD4 tournament currently in Europe that's for sure, so any further discussion on the comparison of GJECT & AEF is currenlty silly

on-topic : hope to see you there!

to be honest I think you should actually do this, it's your website and it's your event, nothing more than normal business + marketing to promote your event more.

Those of you around Manchester can fly direct to Antwerp Deurne with Air France for £93 including return and taxes etc. It's a small airport so that's the only direct flight to Antwerp (easier than going Brussell's and then travelling to Antwerp itself).

Good deal grab it while you can.
