The CoD2 scene became pretty popular these days, what is going on? Things have changed, things are even getting better!
Since The Last Stand annoucement on TEK9, CoD2 activity has hugely increased on the website. Three weeks ago, there was rarely one or two CoD2 thread per day and the activity was just horrible. We are really glad and really happy to see that CoD2 has struck again! When all hopes had died and when we all indeed thought that CoD2 had come to an end ( talking in terms of LANs, decreasing activity to minimum, no prize cups ), CoD2 took over once again. Since 2007 CoD2 hadn't any special LANs, not counting the local Benelux attempts, internationally there was just the Croatian Gamersject which organised CoD2 LANs once/twice a year, but was with one notable exception mostly attended by Croatian teams because prizes were pretty low. The good thing about Gamersject is that they always managed to get 24-30 teams when no one else could even think about it. There is also the Czech Grunex which is pretty much similar to Gamersject, except they draw 8-16 teams most of the time, again with some exceptions.
It is refreshing and great to see that not just recent players are playing actively, but also, some oldstars are coming back to the game as well. CoD4 players who left the scene a long, long time ago are forming teams. The LAN is named 'The Last Stand' but if the community will keep playing after the LAN and if there will be one other decent LAN organisator next to District, does it really have to be 'The Last Stand'? It seems like players really got into this game once again, of course, most of these players started playing CoD2 years ago because there is almost not a single newcomer. Okay, it is true that playing a game for almost 8 years is a bit too much for newcomers, considering CoD2 players only really play toujane/burgundy/dawnville. Whether that map pool will ever change remains to be seen, probably not, but some of us live to hope ( definitely not my co-admin fooZar ).
ClanBase annouced a random map ladder where the system will choose 2 maps randomly which is, in my opinion, great. It might be very interesting and who knows, maybe it will actually change something. We at TEK9 decided to help CoD2 somehow. As it already says in the title, we will use this purpose to announce cup we are organising. The last one we organised was back in 2009, better known as the halloween cup where we had 32 teams participating. dfb and jetset gave us lots of fun back then. We want to make that happen again, but of course, this time our admin 'line-up' is changed. This cup's admins will be z0d, fooZar and lennzy.
