noctis scrapes through, strenx out

Hot favourite Richard "noctis" Gansterer has just survided a late scare against Pelle "fazz" Söderman to scrape through Group B in second place. Vitriolic's newest high profile signing was made to pull out all the stops against the Swede in a DM6 thriller to clinch a last second victory. The Austrian had earlier lost to second seed Alessandro "stermy" Avallone and was playing to stay in the tournament in the group's final game.

"fazz" started the better of the two in their match-up, claiming a tight victory on DM13 despite some great air rockets from his opponent. Things weren't so close on T9, where "noctis" seemed more in control but still not in the dominating form that fans would have expected from him. DM6 was to be the tie-breaker and, despite getting early control, "noctis" again looked vunerable. Two frags down but firmly in control, "fazz" looked to have a chance to force overtime but his Austrian opponent cleverly hid to play out the clock and claim a one point win.

Meanwhile in Group D, new fnatic signing Kevin "strenx" Baeza finds himself already out of the running with one game left to play. His shock opening loss to bottom seed Michael "madix" Hindersson proved his undoing where, despite complaints about sound issues and unediably bad luck with spawns, more was expected from the French player. He can now look back at opening round failures at both this event and the Cologne Pro/Am as he faces Chance "Chance" Lacina in his final group game to decide whether "madix" or the American progresses.
