With a massive 74 days, 8 hours and 28 minutes to go until insomnia42 is due to start I am happy to announce a turnout that has shattered misconceptions about the English LAN event.
Over the past year the event has seen a sudden decline in tournament sign-ups. The event reached its peak during the summer of ’08 where it fielded a jaw dropping 78 teams from all over Europe, and from this time onwards the event has been in an ever quickening decline. The last event, hosted at Newbury Racecourse during November 2010, only featured an abysmal 13 teams, raising serious concerns within the UK Community.
However, there is hope for the long standing UK event. With several months still to go until the event is due to kick off; the COD4 tournament has already surpassed previous sign-ups by 62.5% (including part paid teams), with more teams due to finish their payments any day now. Alongside the confirmed teams, many more are now starting to show an interest, with the possibility of over a thirty team event.
To accompany this positive news Vita Nova has offered an incentive to those who have paid in full for the event, with the aim of stimulating the UK scene. For those dedicated teams that are going down to I42 this April, Vita Nova are willing to grant easier access into one of their match finding channels, #cod.academy, pending an application. The requirements to be eligible for this scheme can be found below.
All channel acceptances will be up for review after the event, if the Vita Nova channel admins decide that a team has not performed positively or developed as a team during the time within the channel then the previously accepted team can be removed.
All in all this Easter looks positive for the world of Call of Duty 4 within the United Kingdom, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Just looking at the groups of i37, I count 75 teams. At i34 I count 78.
Like I said, very tired could be very wrong!

Does that mean a community such as Deadly Forces wouldn't be allowed in.
Even if they had a dedicated 5 to cod4. So a Cod4 team within the comminity so to speak ?
good stuff tho

hello
legend peter! :P
A team which is going i42 may not be the right skill level to join academy, and a team beating them would have a screenshot against an academy team, which is not really an academy team

It's a great opportunity for up-coming teams to play at a slightly higher skill level, improving them and preparing them for a LAN event.
In the long run, they prepare better, they do better, they become more motivated to prove themselves for next time.
half of the people here moaning aint in teams even in the channel. wtf is the problem, trying to support the uk scene.
but its rlly ashame to ask so much money.. look at prices/teams attending also.
Otherwise we would attend if we wouldtnt have to pay 550 euros for each team.
invite is dead anyway, so move decent teams from preinvite to invite and decent academy teams to preinvite :-)
they should remove the academy channel so upcomming teams will have more motivation for pre-invite.
And ofcourse make invite more active. imo
Only have to pay a lan...for some people they are paying up to £300 for this event, that's £300 that that person is investing into our community, stimulating it and making it grow. I think that's worth two months in academy, don't you. Besides, some of these teams are the future of our community, making them flourish should be our biggest priority.

- It's academy, it's not exactly difficult to get into to begin with...
- They are paying for a LAN. Academy, regardless of what skill it was set up for initially, was created to increase activity in the community. They are doing more than a large majority of teams out there by going to a LAN so there's no good reason to not grant them access.
Academy was initially set for teams who are high, but not quite pre invite. It's now got a lot of teams in it who are not near that level. It should be higher than it currently is, but that is besides the point. They get access removed if they aren't good enough after the LAN, it just means they can get some good practise in.
I wouldn't even consider applying yet as we don't have the necessary results as proof we can handle it, even tho I know we can..
We're doing all we can to boost activity within the UK scene prior to the EU lanning season!
Think of the benefits:
- Closer, more competative lan.
- Teams will be more aquainted with each other, allowing for greater sense of community
- If teams do well, or better than expected due to their practise then they are more likely to support the eu community as a whole
- If you don't want to play said team, nothing says you have too!
It's a great incentive to boost activity both offline and online. One of the other requirements is that you have to be active online.
Fuck multiplay!
Nothing personal to you ptER

I'd happily play under-skilled teams in any channel if I knew they'd been granted access for helping to stimulate this community. I think at times people think way too selfishly, at the end of the day, everyone deserves an opportunity, and granting teams access could be a really good way to boost the lower tiers of the scene.
That said, I agree with vithos about the whole promoting i42 thing, why do it? They simply do not care about gamers, they only care about profit, and after 3 i-series events myself, none went off without serious delays and tbh just dire organisation.
-They charge ridiculous amounts of money
-They offer poor prize pots
-They're organisation is frankly terrible for the price you pay
-They don't pay out prize pots
My lot initially only paid to go to VNUK because we wanted to help contribute our bit to the scene, we paid a lot of money to attend an 8 team event simply because it was set up with the best of intentions, to help cod4.
Mulitplay don't care about the gamer, so why should I pay for their event? serious question lol.
I'd love to see a really strong UK event, but is the i-series really the best option?
i40 was my last event, arrived on the Thursday expecting to be able to play, and the admins didn't have ANY servers up and running until Saturday morning........
Wouldn't have been so bad, but half the time during Thursday/Friday the techy's were sat at the fuckin bar drinking and enjoying themselves at our expense.
Swore after i40 I wouldn't attend another i-series, but if they can make i42 a really respectable tourny, may reconsider.

lol
pretty sure that even multiplay's admins can remember to type that in

invite is dead anyway, so move decent teams from preinvite to invite and decent academy teams to preinvite :-)
