Matt "wargasm" Hazell recounts his third day at i40.

Day 3 started the same as day 2, getting up far too early with far too little sleep. Since I was using ptER’s macbook, i needed him to get it into the event. I texted him, but got no reply. So i went over to his tent, kicked it a bit, and then phoned him until he got up. With ptER out of bed, we made our way over to the event. I got to the grandstand and grabbed my obligatory free tea from the tuck shop. I’ll take this moment to add my thoughts on the “tuck shop” debate. Personally, I think this rather quaint term is perfect to describe the stall that greets you as you walk into the grandstand here a newbury racecourse.

Anyway, I digress. my first job when i got in was to watch the Upperbracket and lowerbracket finals. I went over to fragmasters to find they weren’t there yet. What I did find, however, was Tom “D1ablo” Newman playing HoN. Nothing new, you might say. However, the last time I saw Tom was at 3:00 in the morning playing HoN. The tool had spent all night playing HoN.

Fragmasters turned up, and started their game against FORIN BEGGARS. The CoD4 tournament admin, GeoSnipe, was watching the Dignitas vs waL game, so I managed to keep an eye on both matches to do the reviews. After they were over, I posted the reviews and watched the consolation final between FORIN BEGGARS and Dignitas. While writing my report, I decided to eat my first piece of fruit of the whole event, a banana. Later on, I ate an apple. Having eaten nothing but pizza for the last few days, i thought it was best to eat at least a tiny bit healthily.

Some more previewing was needed, so i knuckled down to get all my work done before the final at 13:00. However, my hard work was somewhat in vain, as MPUK delayed the CoD4 finalby an hour. Then another 30 minutes. Then another 30 minutes. The most irritating thing about this was that they didn’t actually announce it. Clanforge still had it down as 13:00 BST, and the only way to get updates was to go and talk to GeoSnipe himself.

I went back to see what ptER was up to and, surprise surprise, he was playing Transformice. As far as I can tell, the object of this game is get some cheese into a hole as fast possible, so that you can become some kind of mouse god. Once you become the deity of all things squeaky, you proceed to use your divine powers to pretty much ruin the game for everyone else. You can cannonball them off the map, put boxes in their way and do generally cause all manner of mayhem. At least, that’s how ptER plays it.

Finally (if you’ll excuse the pun), Dignitas were going to play waL. I went down to the main stage to watch, where we had to endure 30 minutes or so of thumb twiddling whilst the admins tried to get everything set up. They did a prize giveaway, in which i won a 7 in 1 “Gamer’s Toolkit”. Yay! It might come in handy at some point, as i am probably going to be building myself a new PC for university soon.

The final was epic. The only downside was the repetitive nature of the shoutcasters. Granted, they were inexperienced, but one tends to lose patience after you hear round after round described thusly “TEAM A are really keen. Player X is so keen! It’s an X vs Y situation! Ooow an incredible shot by Player X!!”

Anyway... I did the match report (which may or may not be full of typos - I was writing it as it happened), updated the coverage and now it is time for me to go. I’m off now to say my goodbyes and catch the train home. All in all, i think this event went pretty well. I hope we see another CoD4 event at i41!!
