insomnia40: Upperbracket final review

Dignitas, still bitter about the controversial admin decision, went into this game knowing that they would be facing an uphill battle from the get go. They started off on defence, and it immediately becomes a stalemate. Each round follows the same patten. If Dignitas get the first nade kill or scope pick, they capitalise and win the round.

Similarly, if waL get the entry frags then they are more than happy to play extremely aggressively, getting the bomb down and forcing Dignitas to come to them. At half time, it’s even stevens at 6-6. Now the sides change over, it will be interesting to see how they adapt. Dignitas now have to attack with a man down, especially problematic on a map like backlot.
Wal play a sensible defence, heavily nading a few key areas. This forces Dignitas to take the rounds slower than they would like, as they don’t want to risk losing a man a stray nade and going into a 3v5 situation. Now waL look like a side that can win this. They get themselves a comfortable 3 round cushion at 10-7. Dignitas are all playing exceptionally well, but everytime one of their players goes down to a tac-nade they face a near-impossible task to get the round back.

Slowly but surely, Dignitas begin to claw their way back into it. But it’s too late, as they stare down the face of match point waL. The next round didn’t start the way Dignitas would have liked. The entry frags were even, so Dignitas retained their man disadvantage at 2v3. Lighters and raz face 3 waL players, all keen for their shot at glory. Lighters drops allan, and the Dignitas pair make a swift push into A, planting the bomb. At 2v2 with the bomb down, you would think Dignitas should have this in the bag.

Not so, however. Excellent teamwork by the two waL players draws raz out into the open, where he is shut down. Lighters’ position in the basement is no longer viable without his teammate, and as he tries to push up he gets shut down. So there you have it, waL are through to the grand final. With an assured 2nd place minimum, they must be very pleased with themselves.

Dignitas will go through to the consolation final, where they will play the winner of fm! sapphire vs FORIN BEGGARS.
