We're now at the semi-finals of Multiplay's insomnia40 LAN event. Here, Matt "wargasm" Hazell looks at what we have yet to come in the UK's biggest LAN event.
The second semi-final will feature
vital.dBGamez versus
Team Dignitas. On the surface, it sounds like a one-sided affair, although this is not the case.
Dignitas came into this event a partial mix team, with Chris "Lighters" Lightburn of Reason Gaming playing instead of reflexr. This meant they were not the honed fighting machine they were at Gamersject and AEF. To compound this problem, Mark "phantasy" Pinney was forced to leave the event earlier due to family problems.
Dignitas tried to replace him with Lauren "Pansy" Scott, a friend of the team. Multiplay stood their ground over the rules, and refused to let her play. This has left Dignitas with only 4 players. Despite this, they have breezed through the first two rounds of the playoffs, dropping only 8 rounds over their two games so far.
While Dignitas are struggling to gain the form they had at AEF, vital are in the ascendancy. They have not lost a game yet, whereas Dignitas have suffered a draw. The players are keen, confident and fully prepared to use their man advantage to take Dignitas down. Undoubtedly they are players on the up, but they can't compete with the Dignitas side 1 on 1. I expect Dignitas to win the majority of 1v1s and 1v2s they are faced with.
This has all the makings of a classic. But even so, you can't help but feel for vital. If they win, it won't be a "true" victory, in the sense that they are playing a 4-man Dignitas mix-team. But if they lose, they will lose a lot of credibility and self confidence as they drop into the lowerbracket. This will be a close match, but if vital don't get overconfident and use their man advantage sensibly, they could take this with relative ease.

Totally disagree, its great so see admins holding to their outlined rules that each team acknowledge to uphold upon entering the event, even when a big team tries to ignore them and find a way around it.

Not at all.. eSports isn't anywhere need as evolved as a normal sport.. there's no way teams can ever have a backup plan for this kind of thing.. there's not enough money in esports for that atm.. MPUK needed to think logically but apparently they couldn't
5v4? and what about pan? rumors says he was caught smoking heroin.

Big team or not, when a situation like that arises you would use logic and let them play with equal amount. Reinforce what wannabee has said, 'esports' is no were near that big to have a impact on.
