The announcement came three days ago and the late drop-out of Magnus "fox" Olsson, coupled with the later removal of Emil "DAXI0" Lanuszny saw the ESL's Intel Extreme Masters' Quake Live European Championship off to a rocky start. The first match week was already over, yet extra replacements had to be sought out and replay the missed first week matches.
With the Last Chance³ Qualifier taking place Sunday, we saw some of the out-of-spotlight players battle over a shot at glory by playing in the premier Quake Live Duel tournament in Europe, the Intel Extreme Masters. The stage was set for some exciting late-night Sunday Quake Live matches, but due to technical difficulties out of Level Up TV's control, many struggled to witness any of the goings-on.
They will have missed the biggest surprise, Nikolay "
agent" Mayorov first losing to Robert "
tox1c" Kopczynski and then bailing on his remaining lower bracket matches due to ungiven reasons and so, one of the preordained favourites was out and the playing field opened up for the remaining participants.
The Pole took strength from his unexpected win over the Russian and continued in the same style, twice needing only two maps to overcome the Lithuanian old schooler, Viaceslavas "
fire_bot" Duk. In the winner bracket final, he decided Blood Run as well as Aerowalk in his favour and moments later, did the same on Aerowalk and Furious Heights in the Grand Final.
Luckily for Viaceslavas, Emil "
DAXI0" Lanuszny had also been removed and due to making it to the Grand Final, he will be given a slot in the 5th Intel Extreme Masters' Season as well. Robert "tox1c" Kopczynski will be taking Magnus "
fox" Olssons' slot in Group F, whereas the Lithuanian will have to settle with a spot in Group C.
Final Standings:
Robert "tox1c" Kopczynski
Viaceslavas "fire_bot" Duk
Mikkel "GEKKO" Kvorning
