i39 Back to COD4 with a £2,500 prize purse

Posted by Steven dfb Leunens on 2010-01-08 18:38:07
Our prayers have been answered and the Multiplay staff are back once more after they just announced that their upcoming event i39 will have a confirmed prize purse of £2,500 for Call of Duty 4. If over 96 teams enter this prize purse will even be extended to £5,000 although that might be unlikely. This is definately a big change from the last event where they were quick to announce the first ever Modern Warfare 2 tournament in the world, which ended in disaster.

They have learned from the past however and are now coming back to Call of Duty 4 for their next event, something the community can only applaud and fully support.

Our colleagues over at Cadred.org also asked the Multiplay staff some important questions:

This represents a potentially significant increase in the prize fund from recent events. How is this being achieved?

This isn't a huge difference to how we've provided prize funds in the past, i.e. rewarding communities that show commitment to the events and tournaments. Simply, the communities that rally themselves and support the event will be rewarded with us increasing their prize fund. Bear in mind these first figures are the base guarenteed values only, and we are working hard to achieve higher prize funds from other sources and sponsors, like we did for CS:S at i38. With it being the holiday season, most potential sponsors have been on shutdown for the best part of a month, meaning from this week onwards is the first real opportunity we have to get stuck in to secure further support.

Have all the outstanding prize monies from i38 been paid out yet? If I am still awaiting mine what can I do to facilitate the process?

Unfortunately things are still very difficult in the current economic climate, and we are having to pay prize money in extent with the full allowance of our policy, which is 6 months from the event. This means prize money is due to be paid in February and May for i37 and i38 respectively. We certainly do not like having to delay payments but it is an unfortunate sign of the times. We saw significant signs of recovery in the commerical support of our events at i38, and there is every indication this is going to continue into 2010.This being the case we hope to get back on track to where we were with prize money payments before the recession hit.

How will the prize money be divided?
Prize support will be for the top 8 teams of CSS and CoD4, and the top 3/4 for the others. We will be publishing the full split of the tournaments when the information pages and signups launch next week.

The full prize purse list:

Counter-Strike: Source £2,500 guaranteed, £5,000 at 96 teams or more
Call of Duty 4 £2,500 guaranteed, £5,000 at 96 teams or more
Team Fortress 2 £1,500 guaranteed, £2,500 at 48 teams, £5,000 at 96 teams or more
Halo 3 £1,500 guaranteed, £2,500 at 48 teams, £5,000 at 96 teams or more
Heroes of Newerth £1,000 guaranteed, £2,500 at 48 teams, £5,000 at 96 teams or more

To book your ticket, head on over to the Iseries website.

Better than I expected. You're looking at about 1k for first so £200 each. Not too bad I guess. Won't get loads of teams.

I made a teamlist if anyone wants to signup...

£5,000 at 96 teams or more

The fuck?

what annoys me is that people have to pay 90 quid each for a 2.500 quid tournament... fucking sad.. wheres the rest of the money gone to?
+0 thumbs
Ya, where does it all go. lmao. If you guys were to get 96 teams, thats 43,200 quid. Where does that all go lmao and thats only one tournament.

we have had this discussion with multiplay numerous times :)

They say it goes on hiring the venue, paying staff, electricity costs etc :/
27 months ago
+0 thumbs
Lol, sure they have a lot of payed staff and security and all that stuff, but they can pay for the hosting the whole Tournament with like 40.000 quid...then we have all the money from the other games to divide between games so if we get 96 teams in source and cod 4 (just saying) then Source could have around 15.000 up for grabs, same for cod 4 and then up to 5000 for the other games :P

security for large events costs a fuck load.. unless they've got a kind of rolling contract + benefits and deals

also, anyone know the name of the security firm that did iseries last time? might be a cheap ticket in for me ^^

90 quid for a person ?

Somebody's smart and is feeding on your money IN YOUR FACE

insurance cost must be fucking huge, it's directly related as the number of people who will attend the event. And if not mistaking there's a lot of people including visitors going to an i series event....
+0 thumbs
yeh all that insurance and problems with ensuring nobody under 18 can play mw2, its a shame they don't give a shit when 8 year olds play it on the stands there though....

its obvious they make a load of money or why else would they put 1 on every few months?

they must have made deals with all parties concerned by now judging by the number of them they have put on, you can't plan an event that big in a few months unless everything is already in place and you just contact the same people time and time again
