i37: Interview with YYT.NL

As the second day of the Call of Duty 4 tournament continues, we are nearing the playoffs. Leading their group and in good stead for the knockout rounds are the Dutch team YoYoTech.NL. The team have won a total of 7 out of their 8 games and are looking to do well in the final standings. I caught up with Aerox, Pazazu and pr0phecy for a talk about the event.

Hey guys, can you first of all give our readers a quick introduction?

Aerox: Hi i'm Aerox, I'm 17 years old and I play for Team YoYoTech. I'm from the almere in the Netherlands.

Pazazu: I'm Pazazu, I'm the smg rusher for the team and I live in the alemre as well. I'm 19 years old.

Pr0pechy: My name's pr0pehcy and im 20 years old. I'm also from almere - it's the real home of yyt. I'm the main AK player for the team.

Most of your team has come over from the Netherlands, how did you get here? Was it a pleasant trip?

Aerox: We got here by plane 2 days ago. We had a nice trip, got here a bit early but the journey was nice. Got outside the event at 11 and had to wait until 6 to get in!

Pr0phecy: The stewardess crushed by headset. She couldn't find a proper place to put my bag so she found a little spot and just rammed it in there...

Obviously this tournament is not of the same calibre as TEX, but the team came here instead. What was the reason for this?

Pazazu: Long story. We had to belgian players first and they couldn't attend any of the summer lans. We subbed them but by then we were too late to sign up for TEX.

Aerox: The belgians were really keen for i37, so we signed up for that but 2 weeks before they got kicked!

Even so, there is still a decent prize fund up for grabs. How has the team been preparing for the event? Are you confident that you are going to be playing your best?

Aerox: We haven't actually - we were supposed to be training after oof and keening it up, but I stayed on at OOF on like a holiday and so I got back late. when I did get back my grandmother had a clot in her brain so we couldn't practice straight away. In fact I had to get the plane here at really short notice because of that so we havent had really htat much time to practice.

Pr0phecy: And there were no decent teams online - we only played against bad teams. Oh except some polish team, and infused.

You're not playing with your full lineup here, you're in fact playing with LUNii. Why?

Aerox: Bart went to france with his parents and couldn't get back in time, so we had to get a replacement.

Orignially you were going with, skeir. But now you're with LuNi? Why did you change mercs so close to the event?

Pr0phecy: Urrrrrrrrrmm. You can ask DEKO that.

Aerox: Yeah ask him - alternate SMG routes and shit, you know the drill.

What impact has this had on your practice, and what impact do you think it will have on your final plcing at the event?

Pr0phecy: We haven't really been tested yet under pressure with this team so we'll see.

Aerox: when it comes down to it we have got someone with equal skill as bart in Lunii so we should play good.

Pazazu: Yeah in the matches we have played with him so far he has played good.

Now onto the tournament itself, you've had a relatively slow start haven't you?

Aerox: Yeah. The teams in our group are... They're on a different level, let's just put it like that.

Pr0phecy: They're all really nice though. Expect Zatu are lamers becuase we waited 45 mins for them, then when we had to play we had problems but they lamed us.

The only game that seemed to cause you some trouble was the game against zatu, which was your only loss. What went wrong and will the problems be sorted in time for the playoffs?

Pazazu: Hopefully our PCs will work!

Pr0phecy: The problem was that the computers weren't working. Aerox's broke and he went all crazy and emo. We had 1 guy lose power and Aerox's was over heating, so we basically had to play 3v5

Looking at your group, who are the teams you can see doing the best in the playoffs?

Aerox: I dunno, all the games we won with like big scores. In some of them, even though the scores were big we had some tough rounds.

Pr0phecy: DAD's army 2. They're smgs were really agressive and they had some really good nades...

Aerox: You're such a cunt Pr0phecy, you know that? *Pazazu laughs* But seriously, plusONE and etrNal have it in them to do well in the playoffs.

Now we know who has qualified and who hasn't, have there been any results that were particularly unexpected?

Aerox: Element 17-7! that was the best thing that happened this LAN, it's great. No-one knows how it happened but the fact that it did is just great.

Pazazu: And of course sidney klinker!

Aerox: Haha yeah, sidney lost to auric and is now going to the intermediate tourney for no money.

Pazazu: Not suprising though is it really *everyone laughts*

Continuing on the previous question, which teams do you think are going to suprise everyone this event, either by performing better than expected or worse?

Aerox: dfiance. Definitely dfinace. They are such an underrated team. They're finishing top of their grup so they'll play second of another, and if they don't get a top team in their first few matches then they can get top 6.

Pazazu: Maybe team fuzion as well, they've been playing really well.

We saw YYT.NL at Outpost On Fire 3 in Belgium around 2 weeks ago, where you finished 5th-6th. Clearly the competition there was a lot tougher than it is over here. Can you see yourselves placing better?

Pazazu: Hopefully we can be one of the main teams!

Pr0phecy: We hope that some of the big teams will knock each other out so we can get a decent result. We're hoping for 3rd-4th.

What's the rivalry like between you and the other YYT team? You're both high seeds and have been predicted to do well. If you come up against one another, who's going to win?

proph: Me! I'm gonna win, 50 bomb.

Aerox: Us. We've played them a lot of times and we always win like 13-4 or 13-5.

Pazazu: Yeah but there's no real rivalry here, we're all just friends. They're a good side and will do well.

Pr0phecy: Yeah they're a good team, we must have just been a bit lucky those last 6 times *everyone laughs*

What is your prediction for the final Top 5 then?

Pr0phecy: fnatic, Dignitas, TCM, us, YYT.AMD

Aerox: fnatic, TCM, us, Dignitas, YYT.AMD

Pazazu: Us over Dignitas, really?

Aerox: Yeah it depends how they sort their team out. If blackmane is calling when they play us they'll win, but if Mick has the commanding position then I can see us winning.

So far, we haven't and major problems in the tournament administration itself. Do you the tournament is well run? Is there anything the admins could improve on for i38?

Aerox: it's all right I guess. They slashed the groups in half so everyone had 9 games and you had to play 24 rounds. It's not fun for us and it's not fun for other teams who are just getting trashed for 24 rounds.
Pr0phecy: Just leaving it at first to 13 would have been better.

Moving away from gaming, have you enjoyed the social side of the event? Meeting people you know online and so on?

Aerox: Yeah it's been great, had a lot of fun. Met up a lot of people: Ryan, Reko, thorpy getting kicked out. It's been fun, i've been hanging out more with people than sitting behind my pc. Even though I have a yellow fucking wristbamd. And it's plastic as well, you guys get cloth...

By tonight we will have a fair number of teams eliminated from the tournament and will have nowt left to do but socialise. Will you be joining them in the bar this evening?

Aerox: We'll be hanging out with YYT.AMD, go to the bar and hang around outside etc. Just going to mix it up really.

And will we be seeing a pub quiz super-team made up of all the many YoYoTech players and managers?

Aerox: We would but some guys don't want to go *looks pointedly at Pr0phecy and Pazazu* so i'm going to merc for some team. My mind is so advanced that i'll dominate it, so pick me up!
