During the last few weeks and months, a group of American and Canadian avid gamer fans wanted to establish a place where gamers could connect with fellow gamers in a social environment, without losing the gaming abilities as well as keeping things very light and easy to use.
Gamers Portal is what they dubbed the project and you could compare it to Facebook, where people can add whoever they please and known and then talk to them, to get to know the persons behind the gaming nicknames and take away the mystery that always surrounds the inobscurity of online gaming.
Knowing that there already is such a place, called Ugame, started by the Fnatic management, they knew that they should not limit themselves to the social networking of these social network websites. The idea behind Gamers Portal is to combine players in one place and then help them with their gaming needs, as the new feature ScrimFinder clearly displays.
ScrimFinder eliminates the need of players to be on mIRC and know how to use it or do all sorts of things to get into it. The feature will allow for you to look for other teams who want to play a game and not have to move away too far. You can see from the video below that explains the feature extensively:
All in all, it's a great initiative and should appeal to more people than the semi-failed Ugame project, that never really hit it off. However, for those players and teams that compete at the very highest level in Call of Duty 4 and other games, the features that allow for you to play games, will surerly continue using their own and familiar ways.
Correct! Connecting to IRC and all of its commands are very overwhelming for the new generation of gamers and simply just tiresome for some of the experienced folk. Hopefully everyone enjoys our system though.
You actually do NOT need 5 players added to the team (or even online) in order to get a scrim. We are trying to make this as easy as possible. So, like IRC, you pretty much only need 1 person online to get the scrim, then you can go back to ts/vent/mumble and pass around the info.
Gamers portal though is nice, the chat function can be amusing too - my experiences thus far have been good:)
All in all a great project run by pretty cool people.
