Four days ago ESL introduced a new, efficient way to play matches in co-operation with the support of their Anti-Cheat, ESL-Wire. This gaming platform is called VERSUS and provides people to play competitive gaming more quickly and smoothly.

Over this past Month there has been a push in the community to maintain the activity of the Vita-Nova Pickups. With this push ongoing and successful, today TEK9 announce that ESL will also participate in this activity, but in a different method. Four days ago there was the introduction to a brand new Gaming Platform by ESL, creating more opportunities for players to play together without difficulty and also with an Anti-Cheat.
Furthermore, with their individual ranking system people who play in VERSUS get to keep track of their wins and loses, and by this giving you something to play for. The system is promoting the idea of competition with this feature and this can only be good for the COD4 Promod community today. VERSUS covers the most popular games on the competitive scene today such as COD4. Now, with Vita-Nova's Pickups and ESL's VERSUS it is sure to say that many of us would prefer to use these engines than the regular cod4.wars to play our team games or even a 5v5 mix.
With some of the fastest way to play 5v5 team games nowadays it shows that this community can still work with the opportunities that are thrown at it, especially when you have ESL producing this new Gaming Platform for us all to use. So get signed up and get yourself on that ranking system!

I wondered how people are notified whether they are in the beta or not. E-mail, per message on Wire or whatever else.
And free and so on - well, people paying them are getting in first.
obviously they will let premium players in first, as they are basically paying for the system.
prefer this cuz it has ESLwire on :-)
Here's what I came up with after a couple of games played: www.esl.eu/eu/#/eu/versus/forum/2663/24862/929733/?lastvisit=1306328549
This is a beta version of the VERSUS mod, all rankings will be reset when the final version comes out.
Hope this will help getting more cod4 players into the ESL, if the activity rises up, you can hope for an EMS season :)
They will probably completely integrate it into Wire soon enough.
The same problems of gathers and pickup games remain the same, as several people pointed out: Not everyone in the game server and on the voice server, people leaving early and such. Gather deluxe, so to say.
While it seems fairly easy for German players to find a gather, people from other countries probably are not that lucky. Almost every German gather is played in German only, people from other countries unable to speak German tend to be kicked from the gather. This does not unite European players at all and the ESL bubble chay mentioned seems to be substantial.

Mixing it up transnationally of course will lead to the language barrier issue and new players will most likely not know calls in the game in English. Making English the one and only language to be used, forcing players to be on the voice server and in the game via small sanctions like a temporary VERSUS ban or whatever might work.
Everything else will probably fail, as it does on a daily basis in gathers and pickups already. Players would have to be more mature. Simple and unlikely to change.
