With the extended previous Major Series season  concluding just weeks ago the ESL management are already back with a new action packed edition of the highly anticipated ESL Major Series featuring a whole host of competitive titles.

The previous season saw Call of Duty 4 re-enter into the game pool, a welcome sight for the competitive FPS community. During the ESL Major Series Season IX teams from across Europe battled it out for a coveted playoff spot, and of course a chance to win the €2,500 prize fund. Eventually it came down to the final two, seeing Western Wolves defeat tournament favourites Anexis eSports in an action packing finale.

Since the Major Series started all the way back during the summer of 2007 the Electronic Esports League has hosted an impressive nine seasons spanning over thirty games, giving out over 179,000 Euros of prize money, an impressive feat for any organization and are now back, supporting the following competitive titles:

  • FIFA (1on1) -  €500
  • Trackmania (Team Mode) - €1,200
  • Call of Duty 4 (5on5) - €2,700
  • Counter-Strike: Source (5on5) - €4,600
  • Crossfire (5on5) -€5,000
  • Heroes of Newerth - €5,000
  • League of Legends (5on5) - €5,000
  • World of Tanks (7on7) - €15,000

The titles for this season's competitions were chosen by monitoring the activity on ESL and across the globe, with the prizes being provided by ESL and independent companies and investors. Since the last season Quakelive has been dropped due to poor activity levels, and Call of Duty 4 has been rewarded for its good attendance and activity this time round with a €200 boost.

The tournament rankings and country slots for the games with national qualifiers alongside details on how to qualify for Season X will be announced sometime within the next 7 days.

Just to clarify things for people. Certain games are sponsored specifically, mainly by their developers/publishers.

Heroes of Newerth
League of Legends
World of Tanks
Crossfire

If anything it potentially shows the opposite, assuming that you mean they are the ones that might survive.

WoT, this is basically all they get because people know the game is retarded.
Crossfire, same as WoT.
HoN, it's their last throw of the dice really, LoL has them by the nutsack.

LoL has potential to survive because Riot throw so much money into it. But if Riot ever stop, that's basically the whole community fucked, because most people will be putting money into Dota 2 most likely since there is no need when Riot do everything at the moment.

No Quake Live WTF XD?, well the only good FPS is now dead on ESL.....

The only good FPS has been dead for ages. Quakecon and Dreamhack at best are the only real tournaments now. It's a shame but it's just not what the people want apparently.

Activision do put money into their games, it just happens to be for their most recent games. It seems logical to do so from their point of view, why would they fund an old game which barely has anymore revenue left for them to make :D

weird that ql isnt there, the viewer counts on streams have always been 4x compared to cod4's. duels are also a lot more fun to watch than "random" 5v5 cod4 where u have no idea what's happening :D

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

LMFAO

I am in tears. I just watched a gameplay video of World of Tanks and I have to say this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. "OKAY GUYS IVE GOT THE BRIDGE COVERED, YOU CAN NOW PUSH IN!" and then 5 tanks start rolling towards a forest with 5 mp/h, then 2 of them crash into a tree/a rock. "GIVE ME BACKUP"

ahahhahahahahaha this is fucking hilarious.

if u watched a low tier random battle, yeah it can be that slow (low tier tanks cant or hardly fell the trees)....but in CW (clan wars on global map) hell yea its much more professional part of this game.....so it does matter what u watch....like in cod4, if u just watch a pub with perks....looks kinda shit.....5on5 sd promod with top teams.....looks intredasting....

btw: not the best game, but u can earn easy money in it....unlike in cod4
