Special thanks to United Kingdom alex- for submitting this newspost.

eSports Award is even more open, as it presents the new categories.

This is the most successfull and inspirational year for the eSports Award, the organisation has now announced a new group of categories. Many things have been happening at the eSports Award for 2008, we will now see Call of Duty 4, as they announce the best player for its game. For the first time ever, there will be awards for Consoles Player of the Year, the Consoles Team of the Year and the worlds best Halo 3 Player, each game comes with a specific and unique award.

This wont just be a simple vote by the community, but there will be an examination board from the eSports Award Academy, and they will announce the best player of each game on the 11th of August.

Best Call of Duty 4 Player
The Call of Duty series gains more players, stars, interest and respect each year. Since Call of Duty 4 hit the market, all of the CoD games throughout the series have all been well established as part of the pro gaming scene. Everything is looking extremely positive for Call of Duty and the final releases to come. TEK9 takes great interested in the Call of Duty scene, and we are extremely excited to see who is given the first award.

The nominees are:

Rob "rob-wiz" Kennedy - Evil Geniuses
Antonin "OZWALD" Grenier - TEK9 Networks
Nikolaj "Mazarini" Lazarev - eSuba.HAL3000
Robert "smithz" Krivka - Team SPEED-LINK
Daniel "tidde" Asp - fnatic team

Can anybody tell us who made that list ??

this feels like voting in zimbabwe, tottaly not objective and selected by people who knows wich players are good.
What about the cod4 team of the year ?

<3 for my mentions, but has everyone forgotten blackmane? Love him or hate him, he has been an amazing player.

I don't know where you get the idea that best call of duty 4 player must mean most skilled one.. All those players bring something to the table that is extremely valueable for their respective team.. Obviously there are other players that could/should be nominated but once again the board had only 5 slots..

rob-wiz one if not the best player in north america
ozwald has been one of the leading players in Europe for quite a while now, has been more than a crucial part of TEK9.
mazarini, improved massively and is one of the reasons for esubas recent success
smithz is probably one of the more controversial players lacking offline performances however you gotta admit that SL has been playing well (atleast online)
tidde is also once again an integral part of the returning who-team and fnatics solid performances at the past offline events

Obviously players like Sko who made dignitas really competitive again or kammyz who is/was the best player in cod4 skillwise but I believe the players above somewhat symbolize the different player types of cod 4 really well and it's not a popularity contest but a contest who brings more to the table

Exactly ! first of all i didn't mention the best player, second it's indeed a contest about who brings the most to the table and believe me that are not those players, for how long do you know the codscene tek9.con ?
I think not 5 years already otherwise you didn't say something like that.

That's why i asked who made that list and what were the important points to get on that list.

i think so too...
dunno about smithz nor rob-wiz but obviously mazarini leads ingame, so do I, and tidde from what I've seen at least calls the tactics ingame (i33).

Maybe someone should make some "best sprayer of the year" or "best scope of the year" so people would shatap and stop crying...

Now yea indeed, if thats about team captain i'm wondering why sko isn't in the list, as he probably is the so called "CoD4 eSport player of the year" even if he can only sit in corners :D (K)

Finally, out of that list i'd pick tidde... but whatever

Well then i am very curious which teamcaptains they asked.
#109 United Kingdom 4K^wiz 2008-07-17 14:16:25
how retarded, why dont you do it fairly? make massive list and let people vote for themselves, then add totals up like they used to do. From the list id say tidde :)
#110 Hungary dubra 2008-07-17 14:25:15
You shoudn't put an SL-player because resently their dominating online and has no offline achivement. This list is hard to be made in a game wich is played 5on5. Who figured out this award? Is there a best team award?

hmm conan I'm with u at the point, that this award should consider other things beside "ingame"-skill. but ur statement concerning sko is bs:D

thats where i drew my conclusion from.

either way, no matter how its done, its mostly going to come down to a popularity contest.

seriously, i think that sko should be in this list, he is one of the top cod4 player, like he was on cod2, an amazing gamer =)

#120 New Zealand Roychez 2008-07-17 17:33:46
The jury is a bit biased, you can see that at the other awards too. There is an award for best team, I believe, doesn't include CoD4 teams.

Other than that, it's funny to see that at the other awards the community didn't whine as much as here. There were complains, but not as over-reacted as here. No offense though, I agree that the jury made a wrong list, but everyone already made their point.

Again, go Tidde!

Yea few names that really should be on there are not like SoCLoN pulling out LAN clutches round after round, Sko turning dignitas around to win i33 etc.

Wonder how they picked the players, leadership ability? clutches? individual talent? Simple high scores? or just names peple know?

Would have to go with rob-wiz from that list.

+1

List could include a few other names as some others have suggested, but meh, whatever, atleast CoD4's recognised in some shape or form.

Well what's 'worse' is the fact that none of the eSports Award Academy have any experience with CoD4. They're generally either Counter Strike players, Warcraft III players, big name journalists/managers or Germans.

I guess Turtle Entertainment, the people that run the award (and the ESL), asked one of the ESL CoD4 admins for their suggestions and basically used that for the nominations. Just a guess.

That's exactly what happend, and i think it was too much work to ask around for people's opinion and to talk with people who are already for years in the cod scene.
People who know where they talk about.

No ESL Admin was involved into the selection procedure for the eSports Award nominees. You maybe agree that its not the easiest challenge to choose only 5 players. More then a fistful players can be considered to be also on the list. But at the end of the day its not a Award for the best frag movie or something. We've nominated 5 guys but there are more then 10 or 15 which can be also elected as "best player". We belive that everyone on the list deserved to be on it.

Our Academy Members have enough eSport expert knowledge and will choose one dignify community member for "Best Call of Duty 4 Player". You should keep clearly in mind that the eSport Award is not for "being the best lan player" or "being the best online player" or "having the best frag movie" but for overall performance - anyway it's not a popularity contest.
#133 United Kingdom SKevan 2008-07-18 16:03:59

Though if I were you (or whoever voted) was asking some experienced Call of Duty 4 players, pioneers, journalists, etc. as you do for every other game (as I heard).
