Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky and Kevin "strenx" Baeza shared the spoils in a weekend that saw a selection of Europe's big names return to action after the IEM finals. The pair were obviously keen to get back to winning ways after relatively disappointing results at CeBIT and Baeza in particular will have enjoyed his comfortable return to the online stage. The French player was tipped by many to impress at the World Championship but failed to make the playoffs after defeats to Magnus "fox" Olsson and Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty proved his undoing. Wins this weekend over the likes of Marcel "k1llsen" Paula and Adrien "burnedd" Denis as well as a valiant effort versus IEM EU champ Yanushevsky in the ZOTAC final will have provided a welcome boost for the player now ranked seventh in the world.
"Cypher" meanwhile can also look back on a strong set of performances as he earned the €100 top prize in just a single day's work. The Serious-Gaming star enjoyed a fairly easy route to the final - avoiding the other big name contestants - but won't have been surprised to see his final opponent, a player he beat in Hannover but who has caused him trouble in recent online match-ups. Victory, in the end, proved to be well within the Belarusian's grasp with a 3-1 final score a fair reflection of the play on offer.
