Four players remain in contention as we head into the final hours of Quakecon 2009 with $50,000 still on the line. The big surprise so far has been the unexpected success of the North American duelers, who have more than held their own against their high-profile European counterparts. Shane "rapha" Hendrixson has made his way to the upper bracket final while EG's Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty and, even more surprisingly, Brian "dkt" Flanders have both claimed a number of big European scalps.

"DaHanG" has booked himself a place in the lower bracket final after taking down Magnus "fox" Olsson and Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone while "dkt" pulled off wins over Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski and Pierre-Emeric "link1n" Portier before meeting his match in Sebastian "spart1e" Siira. The latter will face "DaHanG" in the lower bracket final coming up soon.

For Europe only Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky and "spart1e" have really shone in the duel tournament and the hopes of fans across the continent now rest on their shoulders. "Cypher" remains perhaps the favourite but his next opponent, "rapha", has already downed "spart1e" and will have no fear going up against the Belarusian. fnatic's CTF squad are also still in contention but face a tough match up with EG in their upcoming semi final. Neither side have dropped a map so far and the winner will undoutedly move on to the final as favourites.

UPDATE:
SK's
Shane "rapha" Hendrixson has made it to the grand final after a thrilling three map triumph over bitter rival Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky. The latter will now face Sebastian "spart1e" Siira in the consolation final.

UPDATE: Sebastian "spart1e" Siira will face "rapha" in the grand final of Quakecon 2009!

Hope for rapha - Cypher rematch :)

It's funny how watching these matches is both nostalgic and at the pulse of the time at once. Quake is just one of the best game series ever <3
