Every gamer in the North American Call of Duty 4 competitive scene knows how difficult it has become to find a highly organized and well run league to compete in. Coming across a league that has both promise and the backing of major sponsors is a dime a dozen. However, with the recent expansion of the CyberGamer league into the United States, it seems as though the community has found their next major league to compete in.
Excerpt from the CyberGamer website:
“CyberGamer is a website dedicated to competitive online gaming. Completely free of charge we supply users from PC and console (Xbox360 and PS3) with ladders, leagues, forums, file libraries, galleries and much more. These features allow users to immerse themselves in an online community and compete against others with similar interests.”
After a successful history in Australia for the last three years, they have begun their venture into the North American scene with high hopes and expectations of great success with the backing of major sponsors such as AMD, SoundBlaster, Western Digital, ATI, and MSI. If that line-up of sponsors does not scream stability and support, I do not know what will. However, their impressive list of sponsors is not the only thing that makes CG stand out from a lot of the leagues in North America. In addition to their sponsors comes a feature rich website including its own chat and pug-bot system, a soon to be released top of the line anti-cheat, and the promise to not only return 100% of the entry fees to league winners, but to also add 25% of their own money into the prize pot.
With over fifty teams registered in just under two weeks, it is clear that the community is happy to see the CG in the United States, and is willing to show them support and compete in whatever ladders, leagues, and tournaments they host. Their first season for Call of Duty 4 is expected to start soon and will coincide with the start of CEVO season five, mirroring their map list in order to make it easier for teams to compete in both leagues. The season will consist of a league split into two divisions (invite and main) and one open division ladder.
The main division will be made up of forty of the most highly competitive teams in North America, while the invite division will be made up of ten of the most professional and previously successful teams in North America. For teams wanting to compete in less intense environment or for teams just starting out, there is the open division ladder which they welcome all teams not participating in the leagues to come and play for an opportunity to also win prizes and an invitation to the main and invite leagues.
Statement from Chris Hill (CG.USA Head PC Admin): “As the overall head United States admin for CyberGamer.usa I feel that CyberGamer.au has put together a platform for online PC and console gaming that is unparalleled in the community today. The response that we are getting from the North American community is nothing short of exceptional. We are really looking forward to giving the Call of Duty 4 community and overall gaming community another league they can depend on. However, I do not want to say too much right now because I would rather let our actions do the talking for us.”
