With the North-American scene generally being regarded as inactive or clinically dead, it was good to hear that Cyber-Sports.net and QuakeLive.tv would be hosting a $200 Duel Invite tournament together, with some of the best players in the North-American scene.
Probably the biggest news to reach us early on, was the fact that neither Shane "
rapha" Hendrixson nor Tim "
DaHanG" Fogarty would be having the time to participate in this Quake Live Duel cup, as they would be preparing to travel to Europe in order to be on time for the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Finals.
However, there still would be some big names participating. The biggest are without a doubt, both Quake 3 legends in the form of former SK-Gaming player, John "
ZeRo4" Hill, and current Evil Geniuses star, Paul "
czm" Nelson. Both players immediately took up the roles of the tournament's favourites.
People were especially interested in how Paul "czm" Nelson would fare, as he will also be making the trip to Europe next week and he is one of the big question marks to have qualified for the World Finals. He quickly ended in the Winner Bracket Final against aforementioned John "ZeRo4" Hill but had to concede a 0 to 2 loss.
Josh "
ziel" was to be his opponent in the Lower Bracket Final and after Paul "czm" Nelson managed to take him out, he would be playing in a Best-of-Five to determine who won the $125 for first place and who would end up second. The Grand Final was to be quickly determined, as John "ZeRo4" Hill took all maps needed to win the tournament in a row, not giving Paul "czm" Nelson one shot at coming close enough to win.
Final Standings:
John "ZeRo4" Hill - $125
Paul "czm" Nelson - $50
Josh "ziel" - $25
