CIC7: Written interview with Kleineman

Posted by Steven dfb Leunens on 2010-03-07 20:20:49

Will "wizinium" Hunter sits down (or at least gave it a shot) and talks to Bo “Kleineman” Kleinhesselink, the CoD4 Head admin at the crossfire event aswell as being part of Vita Nova.

Hey Bo, can you introduce yourself to our readers please?

“That’s quite the standard question there Will, but allright. I am Bo Kleinhesselink. To the active Call of Duty player I am known under the alias Kleineman. “

How has the event been from an admin perspective?

“As per usual we started with some setup issues on the first match round on Friday. During group B we had 2 teams which arrived later than scheduled. We moved matches around and tried to get things sorted for those teams. We suffered a 90-minute delay which we managed to control over the rest of the day.

The playoffs are a whole other subject. Everything is running smooth with small fixes to make. We have had some upsets and that has made the tournament really interesting.

For next event I do not want to do late arrivals. All teams present the night before the tournament starts. Have a check-in session followed by the drawing of the groups.”

There have been some delays at the event but bar that it’s been a very well organised and well run tournament. Could you explain why there have been delays?

“As I mentioned above, there were 2 teams in group B that delayed our schedule. After that we did not really lose that much time. Over the whole day probably about 15 minutes. Delays are things that come and go. Running a tournament for 2 different games without a fixed amount of PC’s is frustrating and you have to give and take PC’s between both tournaments.”

Alot of teams moaned about the groups and playoffs. Example,  fnatic, reason and infused being in 1 group whereas group A wasn’t as strong. Also with Dignitas meeting fnatic or reason in the first stage of the playoffs. Can you shed some light on the situation?

“Well let me start with saying that the groups for the seeding tournament were made on EsportsHeaven. We used seeds and let their system create random groups from the seeds. Some teams, like fnatic, didn’t live up to their reputation and didn’t finish first in their group. This offset the placement for the teams in the playoffs. There will always be moaning, because you can’t please everyone. Even the best system has flaws and it’s just the matter of limiting the amount of flaws.”

You have been linked to admin future events such as the Antwerp Esports Festival. Will you be using the same COD4 admin team as this event? What will you be looking to improve?

“I can confirm that I have been asked for the AEF event. I will try to get the same people involved again, because we all have a great wealth of experience running LAN events.”

I have heard stories that there will be another crossfire event in the future. Could you shed some light on this rumour?

“I can neither confirm or deny this question. Next?”

What has your favourite match been at the event and why?

“There have been so many man. I love it when “smaller” teams give top teams a really hard time. During this event we have seen quite a few interesting results. We have seen Hostile Faction and Corgz showing great potential by making it into the playoffs. We also have Infinity Skills who are labelled as “online-only” showing their worth on LAN. So far this event has really shed some light on the skill and potential of the CoD4 teams.”

Who do you think will win the event and why?

“As an admin I can’t answer this question. Next?”

We see you involved in Vita Nova with myself. Can you explain what Vita Nova is and what we are trying to achieve?

“Vita Nova is a project group. We want to promote and extend the life of Call of Duty 4. We will try to do this by hosting an online league, EnemyDown, and by providing the best LAN events as possible.

Vita Nova are also developing a system to make accurate European and National rankings. This will make it a lot easier to make seedings for any tournament. A detailed look into this will be made public once the website is online.

"My role in Vita Nova is the Event Manager. Everything from Online to Offline events and tournaments. I will be helped by Jerome “karko” Abaddie. He has a lot of experience running LAN events.”

The Enemydown league is released hopefully later this month. Could you give our viewers a bit more information about the league?

“The competitive community has been lacking a good online league. With ClanBase failing to provide what the community needs and their failing to pay out prizes, We decided to take matters into our own hands and get the support from the community and then give back to the community.”

We have seen the cod4.invite/preinvite channels in the spotlight recently. What do you feel about the channels and what can be done to make them the as prestigious as they used to be?

“We’ve seen some awkward situations lately. The most recent was the Padorum incident. There also seems to be a lot different opinions between the admin team. They need to either sort out their differences or renew their staff. But that is only my opinion.”

Thanks for your time Bo, any last shoutouts?

“Thanks for leaving me before this interview was even halfway Will. It’s been great fun writing this interview with you already on your plane.

To the whole COD4 community.  ”

I have the up most respect for Kleineman, he was there all hours dealing with nothing but shit from the players all day long and always smiling and working away, cleaning up the shit you leave behind and getting desks ready for the next players.

All the delays were down to n!faculty not turning up on time and Empathy being a player down for the first matches causing the schedule to go to shit. There was also a few PC issues which can never be dealt with until they go wrong, outside of that it was ran exceptionally.

Often games (the final) get delayed due to teams wanting certain PC's/monitors which the admins worked around without fuss.

Honestly if I was an admin at Crossfire I would have punched many players before the event was over. You guys have the patience of saints for an utterly thankless job.

ps. BMX Legend too.
