Although five might not seem like that high of a number in comparison to ten or twelve, which are the number of seasons that Counter-Strike Source and Counter-Strike 1.6 have lasted in CEVO respectively; five sure seems like a high number for those players and teams in North American playing Call of Duty 4. If you had asked the North American community last year as to whether or not they believed that the game would still be played, the most common response would have been an impolite “No, the game is dead”. While the game has certainly undergone many changes since then, including upcoming players, revamped teams, and new leagues, the competition is still very much alive for those players and teams wanting to participate competitively in Call of Duty.
Thanks to leagues such as CEVO and the ongoing effort of the community to schedule and put together various LANs, the game is still a viable option for competitive play. The $5,000 combined prize pool being offered in this fifth season is nothing to turn your nose up at. With a low entry fee of just $15 per player, the opportunity to earn some extra money comes with low risk.
For teams looking to get their shot at this prize money and to show off that they are the best of the best in the North American Call of Duty 4 competitive scene, signing up for this season is your best option. While the Open Division is not as prestigious of a league, it is open to all teams that want to compete and is offering cash prizes to the top six placing teams, giving even newer and less experienced teams the opportunity to play and win. With over 80 teams already signed up and preparing their rosters, there is no doubt that the competition is going to tough once the tournament begins sometime in the middle of June.
Registration closes on June 6th at midnight, so make sure that you get yourself and your team signed up for this league by then so that you can sit in your room practicing as the Summer begins. Just make sure that you leave the blinds in your room open so that you get some sun and no one thinks that you wasted your Summer sitting in your room getting frags and taking names.
And if you think your team is one of the seven best in North America, then be sure to check out the Professional placement tournament in which 16 top teams will be facing off to earn their spot in the prestigious Professional division for Season five in order to earn even more cash prizes.
