AEF: Review RAGE.ru vs Fragmasters

Posted by Bob Bcrbo Van de Voorde on 2010-07-30 13:19:13
A match that saw RAGE.ru really well prepared on a less favoured map and a Fragmasters side that pulled back through sheer force of will to create a tie situation.

With mp_crossfire appearing in this match-up, this least favoured map of the West-European teams might allow the Russians to play an aggressive attacking side and a very ‘spammy’ defensive side. The Russians immediately laid down some strong attacking rounds and immediately gives them a 4 round lead.

Most know the attacking side is heavily favoured on mp_crossfire and a lot will come down to preparation. RAGE.ru seem to have practiced their block nades well and at the same time, Fragmasters is not doing all that much in terms of spraying through  the walls to prevent a bomb being planted.

Fragmasters just picked up a round with five still standing and this might give them a way into the match. If they can pick up 3 more rounds and end the half with only a two round deficit, Fragmasters’ odds during the second half. During the second half of the first half, Fragmasters seemed to have regained some of its composure and has had some nice double and triple kill rounds to bring the match back.

The second half started and Fragmasters are definitely trying to do well, but are taking longer to reach the A bomb spot, trying to avoid the set nades and prefire the Russians are expected to have prepared for this map. Especially Killzx is doing well, with some good block nades, giving sure they reduce the amount of prefire and give them a way into the bombsite.

Slowly and surely, Fragmasters are crawling back into this match, having reduced the round gap to only two, but the majority of the rounds are really close, that could have gone the other way by a nade’s difference.

RAGE.ru have now hit match point and Fragmasters need to pick up the pace when attacking the A bombsite if they want to string some rounds together. RAGE.ru’s smg players are really worth their weight in gold, shaking up the support players of Fragmasters’ attack.

Two more rounds and Fragmasters will have secured a draw. One more successful A bomb attack and Fragmasters will have pulled back four rounds in a row to level the teams up and possibly create a tie situation going into the later stages of the group stage. Fragmasters managed it and should in all fairness be really content with what they have done against a well-prepared RAGE.ru side and if they have prepared all maps as they did mp_crossfire, they might be able to make it to the second round of the play-offs.
