The World Cyber Games 2008 national qualifiers are taking place all over the world and Belgium is not exception. This year five games were selected to integrate the national team that will be travelling to Cologne, Germany, later this year, the host city for 2008. Cologne is not a new town in what concerns the electronic sports business as Electronic Sports League is used to host several events throughout the year there.
Belgium national qualifier already started with the first pre-qualifier at Outpost Ghent being held last weekend, July 5-6. The three scheduled pre-qualifiers will all be held on Outpost Gamecenters, the first one was in Ghent, upcoming pre-qualifier scheduled for August 2-3 will be in Antwerp, being the last in Brussels and the only one with the three Xbox 360 games: Virtua Figher 5, Project Gotham Racing 4 and Guitar Hero 3.
Outpost Gamecenters are one of the pinacles of electronic sports in Belgium, they are proud not only of being a successful Belgian gaming center but also a place where people meet each other, socialize, have fun together, make new friends and play games in a friendly and healthy environment. Apart from the usual games-related services you can find, Outpost also offers their customers a print service, a pay-by-minute service for those who are just passing by and much more.
Jonas Tembuyser (FIFA 08) and Team Xiop (Counter-Strike) were the first ones to get a passport to the Belgium National Final as winners of Outpost Ghent, the first 2008 pre-qualifier. FIFA 2008 pre-qualifier gathered some of the finest players in Belgium giving some great matches for those watching them. On the other hand, the Counter-Strike pre-qualifier did not have any "big" name on it, a chance to qualify that Xiop didn't throw away.
World Cyber Games 2008 Belgium is scheduled for October 9 at Zuiderkroon, Antwerp. The national team that will be travelling to Cologne between the 5th and 9th of November will be composed by two FIFA 2008 players, one Counter-Strike team, one Project Gotham Racing 4 player, one Guitar Hero 3 player and one Virtua Fighter 5 player. A total of 10 representatives will be in Germany, part of the more than 700 players from approximately 74 countries that are expected to attend WCG 2008 Grand Final.
