The Buttons Got Bashed

Expected by some, a shock for others, ButtonBashers Call of Duty 4 is no more. After we saw Nick "solz" Schurink added to the line up things never really picked up again for the Benelux side of Button Bashers and this lead to Pieter "pietje" Bijl deciding to quit gaming.

Apparently the problems started with the addition of riK to the team, which never really worked out and caused an unstable couple of months. Adding solz to the lineup didn’t help the team in pulling it together as they have now decided to pull the plug.

Kevin "svotue" de Groot and Niels "zem" van Steenbergen decided they will also stop playing competitively, leaving the team with only two players. Belgian star player Stevy "stevy" Verheyen has stated his motivation to continue gaming but only after receiving a good offer will he be part of a team again.

This team had been one of the most successful Call of Duty 4 teams of the past months, placing good at every event they attended. However cracks in the team chemistry started to appear after a disappointing third place finish at their latest event: FATLan, with no Euro teams even attending this event. Before this, the team won The Party, The Gameland, Maxlan and Frag-O-Matic and came second at the Crossfire Challenge and Slap Live event.

Before the team became ButtonBashers, they also managed to put themselves on the map by coming in second at the Antwerp eSports Festival, inciting their move to Button Bashers. In total the team earned 15,650 € under the ButtonBashers name.

Stevy "stevy" Verheyen had this to say to TEK9: “After dissapointing online & offline results and the numberous problems and line-up changes, and losing motivation to keep rebuilding it we decided that it was best to fold BB.cod4 as there is a lack of available players & talent in the benelux. I want to wish everybody of the former bb.cod4 team good luck in whatever they might do!”

Statement Kevin "svotue" de Groot : “At the start of CoD4 I started a team which had the potential of becoming a good stable team. From June till December we never left the number 1 and number 2 spots and I had a great time with all the players. Unfortunately Mofje quit gaming after December and we were never able to find a suitable 5th. Like others in the team I do not have the motivation left to rebuild the team and decided its best to quit competitive gaming at this point and focus on other aspects of life. Now it's time to say goodbye to everyone after a long period of good fun and staying at the top. I would like to thank RobyYe, Stevy, Mofje and zEMME for being awesome teammembers and ofcourse Pietje who I have been with in the same team from day 1. <3 zEMME, Pietje, Kasparov, RobyYe, Stevy, Mofje, Solz, Rikku, Mazarini, Toxjee, the frenchies and everyone else that I have forgot!''

Statement Pieter "pietje" Bijl: ''For nearly a year I have had a great time playing with everyone who has been a part of our team and being one of the core members I can say that it's been one hell of a journey. Starting Monday I will join the military police school education so for me it has been definate for a while that I would be quitting CoD4 for now. I feel partially responsible for the team's fold, however I won't let those feelings overrule the good times I had being part of simply the best :). Perhaps I will make a comeback when I’m done with the military school, but that's not a promise. I decided to see what life brings me.''

Statement Niels "zeMMe" van Steenbergen:  "I want to thank pietje, stevy and svo for all the fun last months. I really enjoyed gaming at the highest level and i think this is the end of my "career" Thanks to buttonbashers for supporting and keep on fragging"
