TEK-9.org starts supporting the GO-Present project

This upcoming Friday (29th) the TEK-9 site will be starting supporting the 'GO-Present' project, this will be affecting a minority of our users but for those it does affect, here comes some info.

About
The GO-Present project aims to clean out all the old browser version of the major most commonly used browsers out there. These are Internet-Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari which all together have a 99%+ of the browser market.

Why does TEK-9 support this?
Well, as you all know we live in the present, if we want to implement something on our site we ofcourse want everyone that visits the site to be able to take part of that. In the current state we can not please all the old users with old browsers the same way we do with users that has an up to date browser, and as we always have the objective to get the "WOW" factor of everything we do, this is the only way to go. When writing this there is a 6% chunk of our users using an outdated browser that is going to be blocked by this implementation, but we feel like to be able to give the other 94% of the users the "damn this site is good" feeling this will have to be done.

What do i need to do?
If your running one of the browsers mentioned above, make sure you have one of these versions (or newer). If you dont manage to fix this until next Friday the 29th, you will get a message saying you will have to upgrade your browser.

And for the users that uses a "wierd" version of Windows XP and still has Internet Explorer 6.0, and dont know what to do with the Genuine Advantage Validation, here is a "hint", GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!, but whatever you find on google we do not want to take part of, and we do not want to hear about it in the comments, if so these will get removed.

As firefox 2.* supports everything and parses everything correctly (or atleast almost) the version requirement for Firefox still is the latest version of the 2.* branch, once mozilla stops supporting the 2.* version (december 2008) the version requirement will be upgraded to whatever version the 3 branch has managed to reach.

How about going to the present by using a non-table based layout?

Well yesterday I found out what this "Go present" project means for me when I'm on the road and want to check the latest news... No TEK-9 on my iPhone.

Do you really want to seal off users who check the site on their PDA/iPhone/whatever when they are on the road, even if they don't care too much about things that don't work properly but still want to check the headlines, forums, whatever... ?

I'd rather suggest something like www.pushuptheweb.com, which aims to achieve the same but less intrusive. We are using it in our soon to be launched website as well.
