After a week of sweltering heat, RSI and frags galore, the Outpost on Fire event has drawn to a close. We've had some epic moments both in and out of the game, and over the next few days I am sure the blogs page will be filled with 'xyz's OOF3' and 'abc's first LAN'.
We hope that you too have felt a part of the ongoings in Belgium, either through watching the video streams or by following the coverage on TEK-9 and Cadred.org.
With previews, reviews, interviews and live updates aplenty on both sites, even the most dedicated reader may have missed the odd one or two. So, here is a full recap which should feature all the multitude of interviews that TEK-9 and Cadred have had to offer during their time in Antwerp. Video Interviews
Before the tournament began, wargasm sat down with the American team pureEports to talk about their prospects and aspirations for the event.
Next up for a grilling by the man with the video camera were Davy and Nreo from ButtonBashers. The duo are part of a strong team that had yet to play together as a team on LAN, as this was the full lineup's first major outing.
As Day 1 of the Call of Duty 4 tournament drew to a close we had already had our first unexpected result - mTw, despite being a High Seed, had only just qualified for the playoffs. Topping the group and knocking mTw down to second place were Team YoYoTech. Here, wargasm talks to Aerox and {{flag_bl}} pr0phecy about their excellent performance.
With High Seed H2k.Thermaltake in their group, no-one really expected jet-setting Americans pureEsports to top their group. Somehow, they managed it. Wargasm sat snatcch and JuV3NiLE down for a quick chat on the day's events.
Audio Interviews
With TEK-9 and Cadred working together at the event, TEK-9 became the proud borrowers of a nice shiny dictaphone. Setting it to good use were wargasm and wizinium. The first outing of our latest piece of gadgetry was with fnatic Stevy, interviewed by wizinium.
Saturday morning saw the first games being played featuring the English-Finnish mix Reason Gaming. The team were predicted to finish inside the money, but a very shaky start agains vital-gaming seemed to suggest otherwise. 40 minutes and a 13-1 win later, wizinium sat down for a chat with team captain Lighters.
Teams come to the event to play CoD4, and for every winner there has to be a loser. To cheer up the teams that only got to play 2 games before crashing out of the group stages, the tournament admins put their heads together and came up with the lucky losers tournament. This was a single elimination knockout tournament for the teams that came last in groups of 3, with a top prize of €200. After a day of battle we came to the final, featuring NeXt.i3D against AIMAZING. Wargasm talked to Diavolo, team captain of NeXt.
Written Interviews
As one of the High Seeds for the tournament, mTw should have done a lot better in the group stages than they did. With only 2 points out of a possible 6 it looked like their critics were going to have a field day as they only just qualified for the playoffs. Wizinium caught jEtLecK for a few words. Interview
The struggling of mTw, who had performed so well in online competitions, was a hot issue in the community, causing a lot of remarks and raised eyebrows. Wanting to get the inside story, DuRuS interviewed Hornyz to find out what went wrong. Interview
Arriving in dribs and drabs, British side Team Dignitas had their fair share of problems before the event even began. Long time member Mick had managed to lose his passport, meaning the team had to find a 5th at extremely short notice. Stepping up to the mark was their former team mate Blackmane, who left the team earlier this year. Wizinium managed to talk to a very tired Raz, SoCloN and Blackmane before their games got underway. Interview
The Imperial were billed by many before the event began to pull off some suprising results and exceed their seed. After their group games it looked like these predictions would be correct, with the Dutch side holding fnatic.MSI to a 12-12 draw on District. DuRuS got some time with Obama to talk about their prospects this LAN. Interview
As a High Seed, a lot of people were more than slightly taken aback when H2k.Thermaltake were knocked out with 2 losses against TLR and pureEsports. DuRuS had a chat with flak from pure on their first impressions of Europe and their shock win against H2k. Interview
ButtonBashers and Reason Gaming both had a relatively comfortable set of group stage games, with each team scoring 3 wins out of 3. Reason had a minor hiccup against Vital-Gaming, but other than that had not a care in the world. DuRuS grabbed the infamous DnD combo of D1ablo from Reason and Duffer from BB for a joint interview. Interview
After a string of excellent online performances but only 1 showing at a LAN event, the team TBH.MSI were given the onliners brand, one they were desperate to shake off. After a very respectable 7th/8th finish, DuRuS talked to team captain smithz to see whether he felt the derogatory tag would be gone forever. Interview
Finishing in the band above TBH were the italian side cubeEsports. The team suprised everyone when they showed that they were a force to be reckoned with, knocking top teams including noProfile and pureEsports down into the lowerbracket. DuRuS talked to the legendary George on their prowess in Antwerp. Interview
After 3 days of sensational gaming, the tournament finally came to a close with Dignitas triumphing over fnatic after qualifying through the lower bracket. The brits won two maps in a row to take home the title and were rightfully proud of their achievement. As soon as they won their fateful 13th round, DuRuS whipped out the dictaphone and prised raz away from his celebrating teammates for a round up of their success. Interview
keep it up at tex.
