LowLandLions wins the ticket to San José after a thrilling and intense final
LowLandLions in one corner, TEK9 Networks in the other one. Remember the exciting groupstage match which ended in benefit of the lions with 16 to 14, this final had all ingredients to become an enjoyable final. The pick of LowLandLions was de_inferno; logical after their sixteen to zero victory in the EPS Benelux against TEK9. The latter chose de_train.
The Lions take inferno home
LowLandLions started as T and immediately showed that they feel confident on this map, ending the side with an incredible 12 to 3. If TEK9 wanted to show their capabilities, they had to be in the zone from the start. Unluckily for them, they were directly pushed with their backs against the wall after they lost yet another pistol round. Still, they managed to come back and showed some confidence in their games but LowLandLions ended the game at 4 to 7 which resulted in a 16 to 10 victory.
Would this be the end?
TEK9 started as T – not known to be a beloved side – and won the pistol round. During the whole side, they showed consistency and persistence in their game; forcing LowLandLions in a 5 to 10 situation. If you think this would become a run-over, then you’re totally wrong. LowLandLions grabbed the pistol round on the second side and played like they would blow their last breath of air, leading at a certain time with 10-1. One round removed from San José. Only, TEK9 came back in the game once again and succeeded to take the other four rounds, making it a draw. The contest became a rarely seen e-sports spectacle. The crowd loved it, and the players themselves were sweating beads of sweat.
After a quick time-out, the overtime could start – MR3 with £ 10 000. Frags were exchanged; a lot of players dropped dead and at the end, Karel Jannes (Bax) gave his team the victory as he was still standing at the end with 1 hp. Can you imagine that, boys and girls? Tension was all around, but only the LowLandLions could go home with a relieved feeling and understanding of attending ESWC in San Jose, United States in the mid of August.
