A few days ago, the Electronic Sports League released several information concerning the current Major Series season, the third. National qualifiers are over and we are about to know the last competitors through the European qualifier that is only a few matches away from its finish.
The upcoming stage is the Qualifying Round 1, half of the teams qualified for this stage will end their Major Series 3 season right here as only the winners move on to the second Qualifying Round. The method applied is the same, winners move on, losers are eliminated. Teams will be randomly drawn into groups of two and will face each other for the ticket to the next stage, teams who came from the same qualifier can not pair again.
Structure related, similar in every way to the one used in the past season. After this two qualifying rounds, the winners will be part of the groupstage draw, twenty-four teams will be sorted by four groups of six teams each. All maps will be played only once and the 24 rounds must be played always. Group leader gets a free ticket to the playoffs, second and third placed teams will have to go through the relegation stage.
Relegation matches are already set, A2 vs B3, A3 vs B2, C2 vs D3 and C3 vs D2. It means that Group A second place will face Group B third place and Group A third place will have to make his way through Group B second place, and so on. Eight teams will make it to the playoffs stage, only three will walk away with something in their pockets.
The new thing this season is ESL Aequitas, official anti-cheat software of this league. In beta mode for quite some time now, the final version has been released a few weeks ago and the software is now mandatory on all ESL leagues featuring games supported by Aequitas, which is the case for Call of Duty 4. Remember to check the Aequitas FAQ and learn to work with it before your first game or you might get in trouble.
Here's the Major Series 3 schedule from now on and links for you to know which teams are already qualified for each stage:
Qualifying Round 1 - October 13-19th (list of teams) Qualifying Round 2 - October 20-26th (list of teams) Groupstage - October 27th - December7th (list of teams) Relegation - December 8-14th Playoffs - January
This season's prize pot has been doubled compared to last one, €3,000 will be up for grabs with half of it going directly to the winner, second place gets €900 while the last place in the podium will walk away with €600.
Good luck everyone!
