The eSports Award ceremony just finished a couple of hours ago and for the fifth year in a row the Academy has selected the best out of the best in each category, a range that has been increased over the years with new categories. 2008 was time to introduce five new categories: Best eSport Photo of the Year, best Call of Duty 4 player, the Consoles Player of the Year, the Consoles Team of the Year and the Best Halo 3 Player.
You may remind that TEK9's very own Antonin "OZWALD" Grenier was the winner selected by the Academy jury to win the Call of Duty 4 player of the year, he was also among the selected player for Breakthrough of the Year but unfortunately didn't win this one too. The best eSport Photo of the Year went to SK's phtographer Rafal "Pigvomit" Lagowski with "The Bitter Taste of Defeat", a great picture of Grubby's expression after losing to his former team-mate and now number one arch-rival, ToD, at the Intel Extreme Masters II Finals.
A total of 15 awards were given out this year but only 10 had a shot at tonight's show as the winners of the other 5 had already been announced in the past few days. Along with another 9 awards was the eSports Game of the Year category which one featured Call of Duty 4, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, FIFA 2008, Unreal Tournament 3 and Team Fortress 2 as possible winners. A poll was held to decide the game that would be getting the title of eSport Game of the Year, guess who came out on top.. Call of Duty 4!
The game has been a rising and shining star since its release back in November 2007 and gathered a huge gamers base from a wide range of games such as Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source, Quake, Enemy Territory, among many others. New events have been popping out as the community grows and the game establishes itself as one of the best at the moment.
Call of Duty: World at War is scheduled to be released in Europe for PC in November 7th, 2008, according to Amazon.co.uk pre-order website that you can find on Call of Duty series official website, www.callofduty.com. The trailers and movies available so far are console only, the first official movie was released two days ago during Games Convention 2008 and it also shows the console version of the game. If there are any Call of Duty: World at War movies featuring the PC version, i'm not aware of it.
Here is the list of awards given out in tonight's eSports Award ceremony:
Breakthrough of the Year Antonio 'cyx' Daniloski
Scene Journalist Award Michal "Carmac" Blicharz
eSport Game of the Year Call of Duty 4
eSport Special Award Gerrit Sauer (designing an eSports Arena)
Best eSport Coverage Replays.net
Best Counter-Strike Player Christoffer 'Sunde' Sunde
Best Warcraft III Player Jang 'Moon' JaeHo
eSport Team of the Year mTw Denmark (Counter-Strike 1.6)
Best Journalist Award Winfried Laasch (3Sat)
eSport Player of the Year Jang 'Moon' JaeHo
If you want to find out more about the whole structure, who's behind the eSports Award and how the machine works, feel free to visit the Academy's official website at www.esports-award.org.

css had its first season in the cgs so in total there was more prize money in lans etc. for css than cod4 by far, so i guess your point is slightly faulty |

my friend, you only compare the pricemoney thats winnable, but on the main public cod4 has won by far,
so i think you point is slightly faulty

i believe that cod2 had alot of lans but didnt boast the prize pots that cs 1.6 & css had... and after all isnt the lans/prize pot the only thing that really keeps a game 'alive' :S
