Joining me in yet another pre-AEF interview is former SPEED-LINK star player
spaR, who joined the ranks of SK Gaming two months ago and will be making his first public appearance under the SK tag at this weekend's Antwerp Esports Festival.
Heya Michael, starting off with the usual, could you tell us a bit about yourself and your gaming history?
Hey, as you already mentioned my name is Michael. Most of you know me as spaR from SK and I have been playing the Call of Duty series since the first release day. In the past I played for OCRANA, Speedlink and other teams that are not really worth metioning (TLR etc), as I spend most of my time at OCRANA/SL in the old days of CoD1 and the early days of CoD2. In CoD4 I started off with Speedlink and after we folded I joined SK a little later.
With the addition of L-King the end of June, SK currently includes a pretty decent size line-up, including six main line-up players, one back-up and a team manager. Who will be attending the Antwerp Esports Festival and who will actually be playing?
Everyone of the team will be attending except Respawn. Fuchsstute, iFEAR, thunder, L-King, Mokai and flie* will be at the AEF. To come back to the playing issue, flie is probably going to spectate as he didn't have much time in the past months to train and prepare for the event.
Joining the team the end of May, you've been a part of SK for the past two months. Was this an obvious move for you, after SPEED-LINK folded? And did you experience the switch from TLR to SK, after just being a part of TLR for a week?
Well when SL folded SK was definately the only option for me to choose from, but it turned out that their interest faded. I decided not to quit playing Call of Duty 4, although without the opportunity of joining SK it became harder to motivate myself to continue. I played with ESC and TLR for a month or so and then iFEAR made an offer to me to join SK. I couldn't refuse, although it was unfair towards TLR.
With you and L-King joining the team in the last months, how do you feel the team has been progressing in the recent weeks? Going strong and fully prepared for AEF or are there any doubts?
I feel very good. We are full prepared for AEF and like our position as the "underdogs". The addition of L-King brought some fresh air into the team and it is great to have a player who gained so much experience in CoD2 with tek9 and is becoming better and better day after day. His motivation makes us move!
You guys have been placed in Group K, together with a familiar face: Roskilde Ravens, who you guys defeated in the CDC4 playoffs, and the Dutch team YMCA. What are your thoughts on the team's in your group and their current shape?
YMCA is a mix team and we know what can happen against mixteams (we saw SL vs Belgium), so I don't really know what shape they are in. They have a few players of whom I've heard in the past. Roskilde have always been in good shape at lan, so this is an opponent we cannot underestimate. But, I hope and think we will take first place in this group.
With a changed line-up the team of course wants to show everyone what they are capable of. What are your expectations of the AEF and TEX and what team's do you think will be the most challenging to play?
eSuba, dignitas and fnatic are my biggest fears! I hope we will play our best game and go for a top3 spot. This is my birthday wish, as I am turning 20 on friday so I think my team should give me a nice present.
What are the team's plans after AEF? Are you guys staying in Antwerp for a couple of days before travelling to Denmark, or heading back home?
We will be heading back home to calm down and then fly over to Denmark.
Well good luck at the event and thanks for the interview, any last words?
Thanks Jetset! Shoutouts go to all SK fans, SK member and all who know me.
