With the Antwerp Esports Festival kicking off in just a few days from now, I managed to catch up with
chr1s from the Turkish CoD4 team NCS Gaming, who will be making their first appearance at a European LAN event.
Heya chris, first of all, could you tell us a bit about yourself, your gaming history and the team your playing for?
Hi, I'm Deha aka chr1s from Turkey, 23 years old and currently studing Electronic engineering. I've started to play fps games back in 2000 and played games such as counterstrike, adrenaline gamer and now Call of Duty 4. I played cs for team dd for quite a long time and I attented the CPL World Tour and some local tournaments around here. My former in CoD4 is Zero Toleranxe.
NCS will be the first Turkish team to be present at a major European CoD event, attending both the Antwerp Esports Festival and The Experience. Was this something the team had been planning to do for quite some and finally became a reality when joining NCS?
NCS is a new brand for the Turkish and European gaming scene. We aim to go far and tried to create the best team in Turkey with the intention of doing well at European lans. Basically we kept the core of team and added 2 talented players to our squad. We really proud of what we have accomplished, being the first CoD team to represent our country at such big european events. We have been planning this for a long time and definately not the plan that was created in one day. Sponsorship deals are tough to get and too slow in our country. I think we changed this. I also want to thank to Jens C. Ringdal for encouraging us to come these lan events, which became a reality back when we were in zt.
With the team's move from Zero Toleranxe to NCS Gaming two changes were made and the team decided to bring in orchyN and Wrath. Could you tell us exactly what happened and in what way did it effect the team's performances and spirit?
I have to do what's best for my team and the e-sport scene in Turkey. Because if we succeed at these events, there will hopefully be more turkish teams around there, which will make me really happy. That's why I changed our line-up, with the best intentions and created NCS. With these changes, our teamplay and teamspirit went to another level. As you know orchyN and Wrath are really talented players, they put a lot of motivation into the team. And that’s what I look for. And here we are as NCS =)
In the recent weeks, NCS has been one of the more active teams, practise wise. How is the bootcamp going? Having fun or is the time dead serious about the upcoming events?
The bootcamp has been really good for us, as it brings our team morale and team play to a higher level. Also, we have bootcamping for about 15-16 days in our private team office in the center of Istanbul. It’s really fun to be here. 7 men in a office for such a long time, I it was quite fun and I definately heard a lot of funny stories =D I have to say that I was really bored about washing the dishes. I was doing the dishes every day, sometimes about 3-4 times in a day, but about 1 hour later after my cleaning it everything was dirty again :( Also loved cl1nk’s comments about all movies that we watched together and our coach "Ptr" is just a really fun and crazy guy.
Overall, how have the preparations been coming along, is the hard work paying off?
We hope so =) I believe that someone who puts a lot of effort and energy into things will eventually be rewarded for what he works for.
Coming into the tournament as underdogs, what are the team's expectations at AEF and your thoughts on Group E (being placed in the same group as MeetYourMakers and Serious Gaming)?
We don't look the name of the teams. It's team a or team b for us, it doesn't really matter. We only play to do our best. We know what we are capable of and if we play our best game our expectation is playing for top 5 in this tournament. We want to show everyone who we are and what we can do then and our bootcamp is for that. Nothing more, nothing less. We read tons of racist comments on several forums/websites, but it only gives us an extra motivation boost to win and take whatever we can.
What are the team's plans after AEF? Are you guys staying in Antwerp for a couple of days before travelling to Denmark, or heading back home?
We haven't decided yet. There are only two options. Either we play some pcw's and practise in Antwerp or going directy to Copenhagen, stay there and enjoy copenhagen. =)
Well good luck at the event and thanks for the interview, any last words?
Thanks for the interview. Also special thanks to our Manager Atıl "Leader" Okay, our co-manager Berk "Ptr" Yonet and of course a big shoutout to our sponsor NCSTR. And last but not least shoutouts to Jens C. Ringdal , Steven “dfb” Leunens and SP-Gaming =).
