As our sixth interview for the upcoming Antwerp Esports Festival I managed to catch up with
svo from the Dutch topteam KomaCrew to talk about the recent player changes, the Acer Challenge and the team's chances at the AEF this weekend.
Heya Kevin, first of all, could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your gaming history?
Yo Camiel, for the ones who don't me, I'm Kevin, also known as svo. I'm 20 years old and live in Holland near Rotterdam. I started playing games 5 years ago with Command & Conquer Generals :D Then I played some rtcw:et and cs:s. I did not really play in any clans untill I started playing Call of Duty 2, which was about six months after its release. In CoD2, I played together with Lance, kasparov, robyYE, oZ and will in fourvisions and exotic island and when Call of Duty 4 was released I immediatly started playing it together with my mates.
However we realised that it would be better to go for a Dutch only team, so me, kasparov and robin joined up with DCC Gaming, together with p3ngu and ed. After CDC4 however they both decided to quit gaming, which made us decide to recruit pietje and mofje. Eventually we also replaced robin with roman. This however didn't really work out, so we were left with 4 before the summerlans.
KomaCrew's first big break came at the Acer Challenge the beginning of June. How did the team experience the event, the victory over H2k in the Grand Final? A big confidence booster?
This was the first lan with four of our current members members and roman. We really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun with the frenchies :D However, we did not really perform to our maximum because of lack of sleep and some other things ;) We did however manage to win the event and this really gave us a happy feeling. It was not really a confidence boost for us because we also realised we had to train a lot more to perform in the upcoming lans.
Was the team satisfied about how they played at the Acer Challenge and did the addition of toxjee right before the event work out well or?
We were satisfied, but we did not perform to our standards. We had a lot of problems with sleeping, as we did not actually have a hotel to stay in and also roman stinks like hell so we couldn't really sleep fast when we finally had a place to sleep :P Toxjee played well at the event, he's a fresh young player and still has a lot to learn but he does his job perfectly.
Despite the team's victory, roman was dropped from the line-up days after. Could you tell us what exactly happened?
Roman and the team actually parted ways 2 days before the iPower event in Paris. It just didn't click between most of the members and him. We had to make a decision and so we decided to part ways. He's a nice guy, but just had his own idea of doing things and that didn't really work with us. To attend the iPowergames, we took in kajsk1ng as stand-in we ended up in the finals with H2k again, but lost.
With the summer LANs just around the corner and no official fifth as of yet, the team is expected to attend the AEF with former teammate robyYE. Any particular reason why the team decided to bring him back? Simply because he fits in well and was the best alternative or can we expect him to join the team as an official member after AEF?
We decided to take in robyYE as a replacement, because he knows our style and he's a nice guy. Last time we removed him because we had 6 members and he was the least active one. However he is fully active now and you will probably see him in the line up after AEF. If he doesn't fuck it up ;)
KC's recent results have been quite impressive, taking first place at the Acer Challenge, followed by two second place finishes at the iPowergames and ESL SummerCup Finals. Do you rate your team as one of the main favorites for AEF? And who do you think will be the main contenders at the summer lans?
I just hope we can manage to get to the semi-finals, but I do not think about us being the main favorites. I do however think we can get pretty far, because we practised hard and it showed if I look at the results in the past weeks. However, that's just practise and on LAN anything can happen, any team can lose to any team. I do believe MYM, EG and speedlink (if they do not perform like on ipower) can go pretty far, Reason might suprise as well.
What are the team's plans after the Antwerp Esports Festival? From what I've heard the AEF will be the team's only event this summer?
Yes, AEF is our only event this summer, because pietje and toxjee are going on holiday right after AEF. So we will all have a break for 3 weeks or so, after which we will start preparing for the next crossfire event, EasyBash.
Well good luck at the event and thanks for the interview, any last words?
Thank you, no problem. I wanna thank KomaCrew for sending us to Belgium. Ciao
