ESL have announced a $6,500 QuakeLive tournament to be held at the Intel Extreme Masters Dubai event from the 17th to the 24th of October. The tournament will the first event since Quakecon run on id Software's on-site LAN servers and a strong turnout is expected despite the long distance and relatively short notice.
This level of support from the game's developers is a clear sign of their ongoing commitment to competitive QuakeLive and has been met with enthusiasm from the community. Full coverage on ESL-tv is also planned with the usual broadcasting team of James Harding and Joe Miller expected to make the trip to the United Arab Emirates.
"We plan to invite up to 12 people to the event and we're currently accepting invitations" IEM boss Michal "Carmac" Blicharz told TEK9."We do expect some great players to come" he explained, "I don't imagine rapha not showing up and we may expect Cooller in Dubai as well".
The appearance of the old school Russian star would certainly be a boost for the tournament's publicity and would go some way to answering the ongoing question of how today's new stars compare to the big names of the past five years.
True of course but I mean for a team like fnatic if they send all of their player the ROI even with publicity for their sponsors it's gonna be kind of low to me
ly bad i thougt it was only a quake event :s but well i'm still wondering !

Also for Euro Continental Finals and Global Finals sometime next year YES!
Probably, but for this kind of prizes i can imagine the bigger teams sending their player(s).

It's not about winning, it's about publicity they gain for sponsors by having their players at the biggest events.
