Can't wait for College, Secondary School is shit.
Hey,
Just budders here and I would like to discuss with you the course I would like to do is Interactive Digital Media at City College in Brighton (Central Campus).
Here is some details about the course/college:
Right for you if... you are a huge fan of Interactive Digital Media and want to be part of the multi-million pound industry. You'll be just as interested in the visual aspects of interactive and digital design as you will the technology that goes into interactive games, websites, digital video, audio and motion graphics.
At City College you will...
- Learn the skills and techniques to create and design a range of interactive design media.
- Work with industry standard software and equipment.
- Be taught in an area graded 'outstanding' in our recent Ofsted Inspection (June 2011)
- Come into contact with employers from Brighton-based digital media, digital design, and computer games companies.
- Have the opportunity to test out and try different types of interactive digital media including computer-based games.
- Be supported by friendly and helpful tutors who have professional experience and training in the creative digital media industries.
- Continue with Maths & English skills relevant to your subject area until you have achieved GCSE grade C equivalent.
Course Length, Level and Progression
Your course will be 2 or 3 years in length depending upon your previous qualifications and experience. You can progress at City College onto the Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design and the BA Top up in Digital Media Design, both validated by University of Brighton.
What course should I apply for?
5 GCSE's at grade E or a Level 1 vocational qualification > Stage 1 - BTEC Creative Media Design Level 2 Diploma
5 GCSE's at grade C or a Level 2 vocational qualification > Stage 2 - BTEC Interactive Digital Design Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (Year 1) leading to BTEC Interactive Digital Design Level 3 Extended Diploma (Year 2)
Then leading to...
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (160 UCAS Poins) > Stage 3 - Brighton University Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design
Brighton University Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design > Stage 4 - Brighton University BA Top up Degree in Digital Media Design
So I'm hoping to get 5+ GCSE's at C or above so I can get that year early and don't have to pay when I'm over 18!
Thank you for reading this thread, I spent a long time doing it.

if you're quite sure what you want to do i can imagine it would be useful but at the same time if you changed your mind and did not have A levels to fall back on you'd be quite constricted in terms of what you'd be able to do afterwards.
i would do your best to talk to people on that course to make sure it's what you wanna do, assuming it is this seems like an excellent way to get there without unneccessary bs like 2-3 years of 6form college.
"So I'm hoping to get 5+ GCSE's at C or above so I can get that year early and don't have to pay when I'm over 18!"
^ easiest thing in the world btw, i have an iq of 40 and i got 12 gcses at C or higher ;D
the 2 people doing the best out of my social group funnily enough dropped out of college first year. 1 went into work as an electrician, the other went into civil engineering apprenticeship. Can get you set up much easier with less stress on the kinda path you're going so gl with it!
electrician now has a honda R 2.0 that can do 150mph with five 6ft lads in it like a boss.
civil engineer has his own flat and an astra (flat is like 140k not a shitty little one ;D)
both are like 21/22, the other guys are just finishing degrees and worrying about finding a job!
After sixthform I went onto college to what I was hoping to be Game Development, fortunately I got turned down due to missing my interview and ended up doing an FD in Multimedia Art and Design, which I'm assuming isn't much different from your level 2 course. From this I've went on to my current course in which I'm in the second year of. Interactive Multimedia Art and Design which is of a level 3 standard.
The point I'm trying to make is, after sixthform I had my mind set on doing something with games or concept art, after missing my interview and starting from the bottom I quickly realised where I wanted to go in life and what suited me most. I know it takes more time but you have alot thinking time and you're not rushed into things entirely. I'll be finishing college when I"m 21 and then potentially going to Uni if I can be bothered forking out for Liverpool. Regardless, I'm alot happier about my decision now because from the ages 16-20 by god you learn alot about life.
Take the longest route possible and enjoy what you do. That's all I can suggest from my own experience.
that one
Uni is also a good time.
