FIFA 12 - Is it just me...
Just played FIFA12 properly throughout the weekend for the first time.
Is it just me or does the Tactical Defending thing REALLY suck - I can / my opponents can dribble from midfield past 4-5 of my players and I seem pretty hopeless at it unless i try just run in to my opponent. It's incredibly difficult to predict the AI (sure humans are more predictable) but even when you know what's going to happen your defenders suck ass at getting the ball anyway.
And is it just me or does the game feel less realistic than FIFA11? I can take smaller touches with the ball and dribble about but gee apart from that I'm not sure whether this game is as enjoyable as FIFA10/11. Kinda frustrating to see myself or my opponent score 5/6 goals the same way / dribble past absolutely EVERYONE when that's just not realistic..
And what's really annoying is when your player for some reason trips over one guy 10 times because of that new physical 'impact' system - which also means loads of times my guy gets fouled / completely obstructed but NO foul is given....
Idk, do other people get the same feeling? Will i enjoy the game more if i get more 'used' to it?

And yer played with a friend throughout the weekend and it was way more 'fun' although he likes to dribble / do tricks like a bitch, which is really annoying (but good on his part ;P).
Just find it ashame that they've imo made the system worse. Its so fucking annoying when Cavani walks next to Pique then falls on the ground and takes forever to get back up?? Then I see big black man Abidal do a sliding tackle to the moon, fall down, then somersault back up without any problems. Wtf is this shit lol
The AI has improved a hell of a lot since fifa 11 too, which is great, it makes the game have a lot more longevity. Also being upset that Barca are smashing you with Napoli, well that's not exactly surprising is it? Barca are the best team in the game (and arguably in real life) and Napoli are a mediocre champions league side. Would you be gob smacked if Arsenal beat Villa? Its about the same comparison.
If anyone wants a game any time add dcfctommy on origin, I require new opponents.
Also it was annoying that people could just hold down X (A on Xbox) and press the opponents in FIFA11. But I think the way they designed tactical defending just means players can run rings around each other. I watched a LLL player the other week do it against quite a few people. There should have been a balance between legacy / tactical defending - both are two extremes.
I am upset that I get 'smashed' by Barca as Napoli purely because the goals they score are fucking unrealistic, the clearances they make are laughable (Gerard Piqué is the most agile player ever, Carlos Puyol is incredibly skilful and can run rings around Hamsik? etc.) whereas in previous games and REAL LIFE you see lesser teams be able to put up more than a good fight when they want to.
And I wouldn't be shocked to see Arsenal beat Villa. But I wouldn't be shocked to see Villa beat Arsenal either, since in real life (don't know what football you watch) 'lesser' teams stand a good chance of beating bigger teams regardless of whether their players are less skilled (I don't need to name examples of teams do I). That's what makes football so beautiful to watch and play. And Napoli are more of an Arsenal than a Villa so I don't know how the hell you can even make that comparison.
Oh and another thing that really pisses me off is when I'm 1 on 1 with the keeper and Puyol came in from the side and literally bashed Lavezzi down to the ground. But he technically just 'ran' in to Lavezzi and my player flew over. In real life that'd be a penalty. In Fifa11 if you brought the guy down from the side without getting the ball at all it'd be a penalty. But with this new physics system fuck all is given for half the fouls. A blind person would have given me the penalty. But the game chose not to cause they've messed up big time with these new 'physics.' It's comical to see how many times my opponents trip their players over each other when one of them runs out of position...
I can't understand how you fail to spot some of this and choose only to put it down to me being a novice and telling me to time my tackles / AI doesn't do as much as it used to (face it tactical defending is sloppier than it should be and legacy defending isn't a skilful subsitute) or putting it down to 'the team is better on paper so they should win anyway.' Cause that's pretty much what you said and I really disagree with it.
I saw you whine about the new defending system and compare it with fifa 11's idiot proof defending system, which made me instantly assume you were bashing it with little experience of the new system and thus not liking it due to you being new and bad. I may be completely wrong with this assumption, but the week fifa 12 came out there were thousands of people crying about this new system, yet now that they've learned it they realised its a better system and have kept quiet. Sorry if I'm wrong, that's how I perceived it at the time.
Also, I don't dispute the fact that the physics engine has its faults, I've had many a situation as you mentioned where my player is simply bulldozed off the ball, stonewall penalty not given. Another that you'll experience is that you'll make a perfect slide tackle in the box, yet a penalty will be given because the animation has you glancing his shorts before you touch the ball, so the game see's it as you touching the man first. Fifa 12 has its issues, sure, but after playing it for a while I'm 100% sure this fifa is yet another huge leap forward. You'll get used to it.
About the AI skill level. On which level are u playing atm? With the new defence U should not start at Legendary. World Class only if u have enough experience but I would recommend Professional to start with until u get used to tactical defense.
To get my fun back into the game I set my % of fail a shot and fail a pass to 0% so every shot I take will land on the goal and every pass lands the way I want it (only direct passes).
Once you changed back from the tactical defending it's almost impossible to play with your mates when they are still on the tactical defending.
Also the issues with the online games after the game came out made me stop playing it ... Shame :(
if someone wants to lose :)
Just don't like it.
And I loved playing against the AI tbh.

I had to move the difficulty down though. Fifa 11 i was playing on legendary & i had to start on professional on this, i can't tell if thats because the games harder or they made the difficulties harder.
at first my tackling was shit but now im pretty darn solid at the back :D
Lmfao so true.
Beat every FIFA game on legendary until this new system. Can't even win the premier league on fucking professional cause someone like Tim Cahill picks up the ball and adapts the ability to do 3 spins, 100 lollypops, 10 one-twos and then smash one in the top bag from 30 yards.
Stick to online, cu @ ranked prem division! :D

its fun till you reach highest division then its boring.
ESL is where its at XD
I think u are underestimating almighty puyol here Thomas. When me and Aerox play we got pique attacking like a boss haha
Best thing to do is just play with friends.
I don't think i'm the 'best' or overestimate my skill - never have done - but many of the points I made have NOTHING to do with how good a person is in the game and more about the game itself.
But many people think they're "gods" in FIFA so think i'm just complaining cause i'm shit + I didn't sugarcoat anything so no clue wtf you're talking about. Bar what i've said about tactical defending (which I am getting used to but still find a pain and primitive) everything else I mentioned is about the game itself being frustrating and buggy.
I just find it equally as frustrating how people choose to point at me and say i'm shit rather than disagree with what I have to say with some valid arguments. I'd bet good money on me giving many people here a 'good' game for a 'novice' player...
1 thing i do agree on though is the way players run into each other so often, like 10 times a game i trigger a run and my forward just falls over cos some big defender is blocking his path :D
