COD4 LAN Edinburgh
Social Lan Edinburgh
I have been unable to find any social lans for this year. Me and some other friends wanted to gain some lan experience where we would be able to get a good number of games, before attending the likes of insomnia and epic”X” lans. The lack of lans associated with cod got me thinking and after a little work I believe I could host a successful lan tournament.
This is my initial proposal and what I can conform just now.
I have a conformed venue located in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh. This central location makes traveling to the event accessible to everyone in the UK, with Waverly train station no more than 10 to 15 minutes’ walk and a few minutes by bus to the venue. This also applies to European teams as flights to this beautiful city are relatively cheap. I can also conform that there will be 24 PC’s with the ability to play cod4 at 250 fps on 24inch 1080p monitors, so no hassle of having to bring your own PC with you.
The event will host a minimum of 8 or a maximum of 10 teams and will be held over 1 day. Every team will be guaranteed 5 games and the minimum prise fund just now would be around 5 to £600. Although I have to finalise the costs, it would cost no more than £40 per person however it will most likely be less than that. The current plan was to host this event some time during the summer if enough interest is shown.
In addition to these conformations, it was my aim to stream the event to show cases other skilled players within this community. As it is still in the early stages I will try to contact some of the larger streaming organisations within the community to see if there would be any interest, however I would be open to someone who has the energy and personality to showcase this even. I also have a few other surprise ideas in the pipe line for this event too.
Although this event is still in the very early stages, I am confident that if enough interest is shown, I would be able to host an event that everyone would be able to enjoy.
LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

I know forum posts arent much to go on, but it looks like you have a brand new account which doesnt look good and im guessing people wont know who you are or had previous experience with you.
Just finally, epic 7 was probably the most social event I have ever been too, and epic8 is looking really good, with a good mix of skill levels and a well run competition. I suggest maybe attending that first, getting to know some people and building a reputation before you go and try to hold your own event.
Gaymorbaze?
GL tho, I heard nSnL is intredested))
I can tell you now that turnout is going to be very poor for a first event and I guess even moreso because its up North.
Epic 7 struggled to get teams in and Epic 8 was nice enough to try it again and its got around 17now but it really had the community behind it etc.
Dont be expecting big things from the 1st event and I can tell you now its a gamble, especially with other events that it may clash with and cost of getting people there etc.
I could probably help out if it was needed/wanted, though in reality all you really need is someone trust worthy to hold the money, double check that things are sane, pay for the booking, and pay out at the end or refund in the event that the thing doesn't go ahead.
I don't think that's required to be me, but I'd be happy to do it in the absence of someone better (of which there are at least a few).

GL organising your LAN. Also, lighters has a good point u should realise.
I'm sorry :(
it’s a massive challenge to get 40 to 50 people all in one place but if someone doesn’t try then who will. I totally understand everyone’s concerns but how did the insomnia 1 stat or epic 1. To all the people who talk about going to lan but never do, get along! Train tickets with a rail card are buttons!
Side note: I'm of the opinion that Local LANs are the best way to grow a community, and to create a player base who'll be keen to go on to play at higher stages (ie, bigger LANs), so it's a good idea and I wish you luck.
P.S. Same venue I was looking at.

GL!
Good luck organising it, don't underestimate the time you need to put into this, though.
And 7 when there's 8 teams? (1 group of 8?)
So I think u should just cap it at 8, grant people a lot of matches for being it a 1st time hosting it and attract them in that way.
Just now I have got 4 teams who seem to be saying if it was to go ahead they would attend and because they are relatively local, it gives me a more reliable start to confirming teams. Again I think it has been a positive start to the whole thing.
The initial idea if we had the maximum of 10 teams would to host two groups of 5. Everyone would play each other once giving you 4 games. The top two teams for each group would go through to the semi-finals with top of group 1 playing 2nd in group to and vica versa. The remaining teams would all get an additional game as well to determine their final standing in the tournament. Obviously there are time constraints and by not asking people to bring pc’s limits us to how many games we can play during the course of the day. That being said if someone has other proposed solutions I would be willing to consider them.
I will try to provide a number of dates sometime next week of when we could host this event in which I will ask the community what dates would best suit the majority. I have a copy of the major lans in the uk so I will try to avoid clashes with these dates.
"lets hope it works out and isn't another mint scenario"
by phantasy
You're entirely justified to not trust me if you so wish to do so, but I gather it's a step removed from trusting someone like mint, or this guy for example.
He isn't about to do a mint on us. If it all goes a head i'll see you there (:
I will never look at you the same in college anymore. Im disapointed.
Lets keep this alive and people interested :D
