Hey guys, I have an Acer Aspire Desktop PC.
Intel Core 2- Quad Processor
ATI RADEON HD2600Pro graphics card
3GB RAM
500GB sata hard drive.
I'm running Cod4 at 800x600 resolution.
Using a 19" Hannspree Xm LCD monitor.
1280x1024 apparently is the proper screen resolution for an LCD monitor.
When I run CoD 4 at that res.
My framerate drops drastically.
(800x600- 90-150 FPS)
(1280x1024- 30-50 FPS)
What specs on my computer would I have to upgrade to be able to run the resolution with higher FPS?
I would really appreciate it, if someone could help me out :)
-Nvision.
Can you find out your processor name / spec?
And, Im also aware that my graphics card is fairly weak.
But it still gets the job done, i'm looking to upgrade sometime soon though.
Although there's plenty of cheaper cards out there that can do a good job and processors have come down alot in price too.
Add my xfire: visys.
i gotta bit more to talk about, if thats okay, i just think it'd be easier on xfire chat. :)

Also, quick question; um. I'm kinda new to editing config's.
I just came across Stevy's.
Can you select everything in the config.cfg file in notepad, and paste into console?
Or do you have to copy and paste line by line?

If you're not sure what you are doing make sure you save a copy of your own before you mess about with it.
Easiest way is to drop someone elses into yours, and just change your controls etc.
As for CPU, personally if you are upgrading, i prefer upgrading things together. Q6600 isn't a great cpu and depending what card you go for then it would be handy to have a better one.
Thought it was the dual core processor, not quad core.
It's 5am, i've had a bottle of vino & sleeping tablet :(
As above then, get a decent graphics card and you're laughing.
And uhh.
Nothing else. :(
add my xfire, the both of you?
Visys
thanks for the help! :)

upgrading your GPU will make the biggest difference, go for an ATI HD4870 or if you have the budget go for one of the newer ATI 5000 series (don't go for budget models though). As I don't know what kind of motherboard and RAM you have, I can't give much opinion on that.
But you should have something like a P35 chipset MB at the least, with some DDR2 PC6400 RAM
I use a Q9550 with 4GB PC6400 RAM and a HD4870 1GB, have 250fps constant (even in smoke) and on full details with AA I get about 150-160 minimum @ a resolution of 1680x1050
and @ ChemisTT claiming that the Q6600 is no different from other quads:
they are different, Q9000 quads have more cache ... this increases perfomance quite noticeable.
