To remind you, punkbuster is an anti-cheat software created by Evenbalance ( http://www.evenbalance.comEvenBalance ) integrated in most multiplayer games.
This thread aims to resolve most of your punkbuster issues, i will update this thread with solutions to variant issues you may encounter.
The best way to solve a punkbuster issue, is usualy to update punkbuster or if your problem is still there ,uninstalling and re-installing. There is sometimes persistent issues with punkbuster that can't be solved with a simple uninstall/re-install or update, i will add solutions to these various problems at the bottom of this post.

[1]Updating Punkbuster manually
1) First of all, download pbsetup (
websec.evenbalance.com/downloader/download.php?file=1 ) , enter the security code displayed in the image on the right hand side and click "Download Now"
2) Extract pbsetup from the zip in a random folder( do it, bpsetup need temporary files to work correctly )double-click pb setup, windows will probably ask you if you want to allow the program, just allow it and then click "
I Agree ":
3) Click "
Ok ":
4) The following windows appears:
5) Click "
Add a game ":
6) Select a game in the games list ( Battlefield Bad Company 2 for example ),
click "Browse " to select the correct game path!:
7)Click "
Add game ":
8)Your game is now added to the list:
9)Click "
Check for updates":
10)PBsetup is now updating your punkbuster files, wait for a while, a windows will appear informing you that your punkbuster files are now updated:
11)Click Ok, You can now close pbsetup. I advise you to restart your computer. For Call of Duty 4, sometimes rebooting is needed or the update will be corrupted when launching the game and your problem will not be fixed.
Pbsetup will add two files to the folder where pbsetup is (pbgame and pbuser) don't delete them.
With that done, the majority of your problems should be solved already
If you still have an issue, try to install/reinstall by reading the following method:

The following method will uninstall, clean and reinstall punkbuster files.
1) First of all, download pbsvc (
www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe ), run it and select "
un-install/remove punkbuster":
2) pbsvc is now uninstalling punkbuster and if everything is ok, you will have "
OK " in green at the end of every process pbsvc will do:
3) Now, we're going to clean the old punkbuster files by deleting the pb directory in your game directory. This way, they will have not any punkbuster files remaining on your computer
delete the "
PB" folder in your game directory

4) Now that your computer is clean, we're going to install punkbuster by running pbsvc again by selecting this time "
Install/Re-install Punkbuster service". Click "
Next"
5) everything should be ok, you will have "
OK " in green at the end of every process pbsvc will do. Just click "
Next " again
6) When it's finished the following message appears "Tests completed successfully without error". If you don't get this message, go to your firewall settings and be sure to allow "
pnkbstrA.exe " and "
pnkbstrB.exe " ( Allowing these process in your firewall wil also solve problems like "PnkbstrB heartbeats stopped etc..."
7) Now to be sure everything is ok, just update manually your punkbuster by following the process "[1]

8) Be sure to Restart your computer to finish the reinstallation process. ;)

This problem happens when you're using a too old version of fraps, remove it or install a new version from
www.fraps.com
PnkBstrB.exe Driver Failure ( rarely happens and disappears )
Can randomly happen if your game isn't installed in the same partition than your windows installation. Just move your game to your partition where windows is installed.
Disallowed program/driver [80441]
caused by "
cweoaqw.exe " clean your computer, you're probably infected with a virus or a malware.
PnkBstrB.exe initialization failed
It's a firewall problem, check that your firewall allows pnkbstrA.exe and pnkbstrB.exe.
Disallowed Programs/Drivers [132088]
Disable "Enable Steam Community In-Game" in Steam.
Losing key packets
You can usually get that because of your firewall or your antivirus being too strict. Try to stop them and to launch the game again. On call Of Duty 4 " cl_packetdup 5" or something like that can resolve the problem. Can also be a problem from your connection ( too bad connection, wireless connection packets lost etc... )
programs causing a major risk of kick:
-Ventrilo Chat Overlay
-Team Speak Overlay
-DxTweaker
-ATI Tray Tools (depends on version)
-Game Accelerator (uninstall, then reboot)
-Mumble Overlay
-EVGA Precision tool
-DirectX being out of date CAN cause the problem. Google for dxwebsetup. Get it from Microsoft, run it... it 'might' help.
-ATI Tray Tools is a likely cause as well.
-Older versions of fraps
-Old GFX drivers are another suspect, make sure you are running the latest WHQL drivers for your card.
-Out of date X-Fi soundcard drivers
-Outdated version of Winamp and winamp untrusted plug-ins

Always keep in mind that sometimes, Punkbuster issues disappears like they appears so sometimes, a simple reboot is just enough.

Just got it on quekelive, so I don't really care about it.
But on the otherside, it would be nice if there is any solution.

Whenever I get it I have to turn winamp off

PB is so random :/
i got a problem on my server with punkbuster. i cant get my server info of PB. Now i cant Kick or Ban people by Punkbuster.
Who know's this error:

I have this reason for kick :"pnkbstrb.exe driver failure pnkbstrk.sys ffab", but your solution doesn´t work.
PB is updated, PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB run, Firewall allows all PnkBstr-Processes. I uninstalled Punkbuster, and when I try to reinstall it, it stops in the test at the last point. All points are green, but at the last one it simply doesn´t want to go on. I waited once for 30 Minutes, still nothing.
The Point is: Checking PnkBstrK driver status.
Yesterday evening I made a system recovery. After that it works perfectly. Played few pcw´s and went to bed. Today I played again at different pub servers. The last was on Core FFA, after that I made a little brake, went to another server and got kicked again, with the same reason. I don´t know any reason for it, hopefully someone can help me.

Few days ago i reinstalled my Windows, now when i join a server i'm getting kick of communication failure.
So i updated everything etc, and i found the problem.
When i open start => services.msc then i scroll down i see that PnkBstrA is running ok, and when booted it will open automaticly. But where is PnkBstrB??? so i download pvsvc, and when i test services, he says it ok. So i go Start => services.msc Then i scroll down i see both PnkBstrA and B there. I join a game, and im kicked. I go services.msc again, PnkBstrB is gone again..
Using Windows 7 64bits, no anti-virus.

I have no firewall on, only one I had was windows and I turned it off, I run cod4 as admin, I have cl_packetdup 5 for getting kicked for losing key packets.
I can add it to the router somehow, but I don't know how ;(

now my problem
for quite a while now i've been having trouble with windows 7,whenever i play games that use punkbuster it randomly crashes my pc (locks up,sound loops,manual restart,ctrl alt delete doesnt work) but other games such as counter strike etc that do not use punkbuster do not.I've tried a support ticket but they simply stopped replying even though i did exactly what they requested,the bastards :P.But this doesnt occur at all on xp.I've checked my temperatures and they're fine too.
