Hey guys after 1 hour ingame i get "iw3mp.exe has stopped working"
What i've tried :
FORMAT PC;
REINSTALL COD4;
REPATCH COD4;
ENABLE STEREO MIX;
CHANGE SOUND TO 44KHz;
RENAME MSSMP3.ASI TO MSSMP3.BAK
DESACTIVATE REALTEK ON BIOS;
UPDATE ALL MY DRIVERS;
PUT IN MY MIC IN ONBOARD SOUNDCARD;
CHANGE IW3MP.EXE EXECUTABLE;
UPDATE MY BIOS;
RUN AS ADMIN;
RUN IN SAFE MODE;
BUYING A NEW SOUND CARD CAN FIX MY ERROR? :s
MY SPECS:
CPU:i7 2600k
GRAPHICS CARD : 2 x EVGA GTX 570
RAM : 16 GB
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64 BITS

But it seemed to be fixed after i updated my soundcard driver.
I use vista home 32bit.

try to remove 1 video card, run cod4, open options, dual video cards on, escape and quit game (not /quit console)
turn pc off
put 2nd gfx card in

When I plugged it in for the first time the sound worked but got the same error as you.
Right clicked on sound properties (the little speaker icon near the time)
Went to recording devices and noticed the microphone even though plugged in was disabled.
Right clicked on "Microphone (High Definition Audio Device) - Default Device" and turned it to Enabled.
Worked.
Make sure your default device microphone is enabled.
i've tried everything :s
can anyone help me?
i think pbcl.dll is corrupt, but i've tried reinstall pb to.

no bait btw.
Try to change the file mssmp3.asi ( \Call of Duty 4\miles )
to mssmp3.bak
If that still doesnt work,. last thing I did was to
Buy a soundcard, or a HS - usb with build-in soundcard.
COD4 cant work proper with onboard soundcard, basically works crap with realtek.
This worked for me.

Also; try launching single player then clicking multiplayer from there.
most simple minded thing i can think about at the moment. but always works!
I had the same problem but it was after 15 minutes, downloading the iw3mp.exe from TZAC's website fixed it for me
@panix i've tried that too
@datnotcurry my drivers are all updated
@solu i just use evga precision and avast.

If you have realtek that is.

That one fixed all of my problems.
did you install cod already without punkbuster (with cleaning your registry ofcourse)
Scan for virusses with good scanner
2.install 1.4 patch
3.install 1.5 patch
4.install 1.6 patch
5.install 1.7 patch
works 100%
