Jo, I am wanting to know what desktop wouldn't lag like a mother when theres smoke in COD4.
At the moment, I am using a Samsung R710. The second the smoke goes up, I drop around 50 FPS.
Any suggestions? I have a budget of up to £750

Prices have been falling at such a fast rate where ATi is concerned. I bought my 4770 for £82 in May. If I waited a month, could have got a 4870 for 20 quid more. :( Can't really plan for these things though lol, and at the time the 4870 was still pricey. Cheap as chips now.
Still better than my old 3850 though. :D

Actually use his setup, but sub the mobo out and go for something cheaper (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-125-GI&tool=3) and use the money saved to get a better cpu like the E8400, then ur sorted. :D
I think it depends. An E8400 OC'd to atleast 3.4GHz would probably be sufficient for gaming, so it just comes down to whatevs cheapest.
Not sure if there would be any major difference in a game, wouldn't have thought so. Personally at this stage I'd be tempted to grab a quad, as more games and apps will be optimised for quads in the next year or so.
www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-254513_10_0.html - IDK if that's a help at all.

I'm doing motion graphics/animation for college, so wouldn't the Quad Core be better in this case?

or if you can get two 260's for £90 and put them in SLI would be pretty cool :/

If you look at the stock speeds of it I think (can't remember) it's the same as a saphire 4890, and it should also be on warranty so if it breaks or anything you can return it.

Saphire 4890 is £10 (or so) more than the unbranded one
Saphire one has extra year on warranty and also includes:
- CrossFire Bridge Chip
- 6 Pin to 4 Pin Power Adaptor
- DVI to VGA Adaptor
- DVI to HDMI Adaptor
- HDTV Component Adaptor
- FutureMark 3DMark Vantage Advanced Edition
- Cyberlink Power DVD 7
- Cyberlink DVD Suite
- Sapphire/ ATi Metallic Case Badge

I watched a review on TigerDirectBlog and it reaches 100FPS in 1920x1200 res.

Will probably get 250 on pretty high settings. The benchmarks are usually done in single player, which eats at your fps compared to promod. So whatever it gets in the benchmarks you can add another 50% or so on for a promod server.

Or you can go i7:

Actually turns out £7 cheaper than your setup. :P The i7 would probably perform better on applications, but gaming I'm not sure haven't seen any proper benchmarks. Was bored so I just put a quick one together. :D

I think I'll go for the i7 you just posted =D Just gotta wait a few weeks :(
Thanks for all your help :)
