Changing UK ISP service

Okay, I've done a little forum research and turned up nothing that sticks out, so I pose the question to the British gamers on here: "What is the best UK ISP?".
I'll narrow it down a bit:
I am currently with Orange broadband on their "Home" service, which, I can only say is terrible. I've moved from Northamptonshire to Essex, Leciester to back home, and I've always noticed how slow, "laggy" (during gaming, consistant flow of red lines and high ping) and just overall average it is.
I do have around £35 to spend (Yes, that is what I'm currently paying as I've had the service since it was Freeserve Dial-up), but I would obviously like something a bit cheaper, but like I say, I'll pay for quality.
I am a rather heavy user during peak times (as I start work early, goto bed early), so idealy I need a broadband which is unlimited, with a large usage allowance during peak.
I'm also looking for something on a rather short contract, 3 to 6 months prefrably, but if the ISP is recommended, I would settle with a maximum of 12.
I'm aiming to get an outstanding answer, as while I've been moaning about how terrible my net is, I've had quite a few people ask who is the best to switch to, and I honestly don't have a clue!

I had a massive rage at Orange, asking for my MAC code so I could switch to PlusNet. They asked why I wanted to switch, I said that their service is terrible and I've never experienced anything like it, they "Don't leave, we can forward you to technical support", Kept telling them no and simply said to E-amil my MAC code.
Before I even got my e-mail, I noticed my ping was 30, not a single red line in sight, and It was fixed, almost perfect.
Still wouldn't recommend Orange if it requires somone to get very stressed over the phone to sort their service.
I would still recommend PlusNet if you can't get services like Be* etc. |
