I have a ping of 78-82 on german server with maxpackets 60 on. With maxpackets 100 my ping is 900+
So i have to put my fps down to 125 to get a better ping, which is shit, cause it means, that I have a big disadvantage to players with good internet connections |
from the minimum system requirements:

Multiplayer Requirements:
-Internet(TCP/IP) and LAN(TCP/IP) play supported
- Internet play requires broadband connection and latest drivers
- LAN play requires network interface card and latest drivers | |
i think, u didnt get me. I have got a broadband connection and i am able to play cod4 on the internet with a normal ping!
But if someone whines about, that he isnt able to kill someone with maxpackets of 60, cuz he has a bad reg , he is just a FAG!
That is why i think, u should allow maxpackets 60-100. |
You do not understand how this works.
Your ping displayed in game is meaningless, as it is based on buggy code. The only ping you should take into account is the pings from command prompt.
Furthermore, changing your maxpackets does not affect your ping. The display difference in game is an engine bug, and it is people like you who are holding the game back as you cannot understand this. Finally, any not fucked DSL connection will be good enough for gaming.
Gaming actually does not require that much bandwidth, thus your statment regarding DSL1000 is largly incorrect. Sure we've fucked over the 3 56kers still playing, but why should the majority suffer for people who really shouldn't be playing in the first place? It's not like the 56kers aren't going to lag anyways.
If you want anything less than 100maxpackets, you either are a shit cunt who wants to lag so he can play scrappy/get a couple of lag kills, or you are stupid. There are no other choices. /troll

going to 75Hz on my LCD got me rid of the tearing and ghosting i had @ 60Hz...
and 125 doesn't really stutter, ofc it doesn't look THAT fluently if you switch down from 250, but it's a whole lot better than it was in cod2... |

i dont mind no muzzle flash, but if you take hitblips out it could force players to use a bit more effort to decide if they're hitting or not
just a suggestion

Considering that your standard 85hz (i hope to god everyone uses at least that) CRT has around a 12ms delay then it all adds up.
Average CRT = 12ms delay
Average mouse = 8ms delay
COD4 = upto 50ms delay (sv_fps 30 = ~33ms)
Average LCD = 30-40ms delay
Quality LCD = 60ms+ delay
125fps = 8ms delay(negated by all your monitors though)
All in all, my system =
30+ pings = 30ms+
125fps = 8ms
140hz = 7.1ms (negated cuz higher than my fps)
500hz mouse = 2ms
cod4 = upto 50ms (more complicated)
So in reality when I'm playing (and I'm not terrible) I normally play with upto 90ms lag. Anyone with an LCD has more than me, and I'm barely trying to keep mine low. But ye, I'm sure you can see a 10ms difference without something to compare it against. :)
It is more complicated than that though, but made it simple for people to understand. ;p

then tell me why the hell should my delay be HIGHER with 75Hz than with 60Hz?
(the higher the refresh rate, the lower the delay...) |

Because the input delay from your LCD is not solely based on your refresh rate, but takes into consideration of LCD responce times(amoung others), which generally preform best at recommended settings (60hz, depending on brand + make).
Now a CRT, thats all about refresh rate.
Now I'm not saying that you should all ditch your nice LCDs (shit I have two Dell 2408WFP, and love them). What I am saying is that a all the lag people are complaining about are negated by other things, so cannot possibly be related to 125fps in itself.
P.S. I'm really glad people who don't even begin understand their hardware can decide whats best for the game. It's not like the COD series is crippled or anything because of this.

125fps is laggy and not smooth at a lot of PC's |
Show us it lagging you, and detail your configuration. |
I ahve been a 125 gamer for pretty long time, now i got a new vid card what can go to 250, now when I change back to 125 you just can feel ( and see) how laggy 125 is, screen is stuttering when turning also. |
For my PC check my profile
I use 1152x864 @ 75hz (cus its the highest resolution i can use 75hz on)
Rest is off, low etc, nothing special
I dont think I can show it with recording it, u wud have to see it on my screen, maybe @ LAN? :p
Anyway, as DreamW8er is saying, its stuttering at 125fps, U might not notice it if u always play 125, but if u go back from 250 to 125, u definately see it stuttering when turning etc |
First of all, your monitor is probably faster @ 60hz. LCD's are complicated, and turning your refresh rate up, generally hurts performance. ;)
Second of all, there is nothing wrong with my eyes bro. If there is stuttering, I would see it. My computer runs fine at lower FPS, although I do have a significantly better monitor (gaming wise) than you do. |
I know CRT > LCD/TFT, not enough space for it here :P
at 60hz its unplayable, it ghosts like fuck and it looks like im playing at 20 fps, at 75hz and 250fps is perfectly smooth :D
I know what Im doing, and 1152x864 @ 75hz is the best playable resolution to play on with my PC and monitor, no discussion possible about that :p
Basically my point is, if u always played with 125 u dont notice the stuttering, when u go from 250 to 125 it will feel unsmooth(does that word even exist? :P)

its not that 250 gives u a massive advantage anyway, it doesnt shoot soooo much faster compared to 125 (in fact, i dont even see a difference :P), and for the jumping part, u dont jump much further anyway and u wont be able to do a perfect strafe jump in a match anyway (perfect as in the max units possible) |

It's not really the extra fire rate which bothers me, it's the idiots who can't hold it steady, who are basically rating. Registration is good, no? |

Any way to find out what the best refresh rate for your monitor is? I mean, I've had my monitor a while now, i don't even know what make it is. (LCD) |

A millisecond (from milli- and second; abbreviation: ms) is one thousandth of a second.
ur talking about 20-30 ms delay not 100, why ppl need to care on some ms if they have like 1-2 seconds of delay in their brains or even more sometimes |
