The competitive game really depends on how quickly the engine can be changed competitively - whether it comes with mod tools, etc, and how the stock game is when you turn off decals, all the shit, etc. How the netcode is, whether its further fucked or if they have fixed parts of it. If the guns are reasonably balanced.
We don't know what the engine or gameplay is or could be like however, the CoD4 gameplay videos showed us we can't judge in advance. We saw videos of 'Overgrown' and 'Wetwork' in public servers with helicopters, rpg's and claymores, and all graphics on max.
We can't sit basing the game now off a load of the single player, and things like people throwing molotovs around - which will obviously get disabled unless they are sheerly just grenade-like in effect
I don't think its worth claiming in advance to just stay on CoD4 - because although unlikely, the game could be better, and none of us know how much potential the multiplayer does or doesn't have.
Even though its not made by IW directly, we all know that IW is going downhill rapidly anyway. Their stock games have got steadily worse competitively every time. CoD2 required far more modding than CoD1 to make decent, CoD4 needed insane amounts.
The really sucky thing about it is, is that it will only last a year until CoD6, which is a killer. They should not have announced CoD6 so soon
