COD4 fps drops 250 to 20-50

I have got an 8800GTX and I get 250fps ingame, but every 2 or 3 seconds it drops to 20-50 fps so it makes me spike every 2 or 3 secs, which is really annoying.
I tried reinstalling drivers, other drivers, tweaked drivers, other cfg, nothing seems to work, its only since the last week or so, never had any problem with it.
Also tried to clean up my hard disk + defragmantate (Spelling? u know what i mean though).
Any ideas?

It gets 10degrees hotter when the case is closed.
Also my game just freezes when i leave standard fan speed (60% or so)+closed case
100%+open case = fine |

I know but its not the hot PC causing the FPS drops so i dont care about the temperatures, its PB, cus if i play non-pb its perfect. |

You should really be worried to be honest. Those cards can handle upto 115 degrees *in theory*, but the rest of your hardware might not fare so well in such a warm environment.
Definitely look into some case fans, and perhaps a beefy CPU cooler to improve airflow around the inside of the case.
Furthermore, make sure your wires aren't just all over the place. Cable tie them around the sides so that air isn't restricted. |

I had ur problem as well, turned out my heatsink and cpu fan weren't fitted as tight as they were supposed to be.
At first i had temperatures of around 100 degrees now my pc runs fine at 50 degrees |

I've got a 8800 GT GeForce, you can set the card from preformence to quality, when i set mine to quality nothing happens and it looks like preformence which is really strange, cause i did set it on quality.
thats just bullshit ofcourse, i tried installing different drivers but the problem isn't gone yet :S |

I have a really crappy Graphics card. I change the settings from quality to performance // Y? because if the graphics card settings are on performance you can still have all the IN GAME graphics set to HIGH or EXTRA and FOR ME it runs more smoothly.... |

I just want it like it used to be that if i put it on quality its clear to see and if i put it on preformence its not so clear. |

I have similar problem as Foster, suddenly my fps drops down, and my ping goes up, and i get laggy because of this. |
