Dreamhack Winter 2009 - Introduction

Welcome to TEK9's coverage hub for the Dreamhack Winter 2009 Quake Live tournament
. Here you'll find easy access to all the info that you'll need to get the most out of what promises to be an intense two days of QuakeLive action in Jönköping, Sweden. We'll be bringing you up-to-date scores, the latest news, in-depth previews, reviews and more when the event goes live Thursday morning.

At 11:00 CET Thursday morning, the first Dreamhack Winter 2009 Quake Live groups (A, B, C and D) will be going live, followed by E, F, G and H at 13:30 CET. In total, 32 players will be entering the competition, divided into eight groups of four players each. Of each group, the top two advance to a single elimination playoff bracket, which is set to start Thursday afternoon. All playoff games will be best-of-three, except for the final, which will be best-of-five.

Note that we might cover the MW2 tournament as well, but that will depend if we can get a hold of the scores, since we won't be at the event.

The prize money is 50,000 SEK, approx 4,800 euros (same as Quake Live). As far as I know, the tournament is only open for Scandinavian teams that qualified (8 in total).

no CS tourney in this edition of Dreamhack? I thought Dreamhack just had a global qualifier for teams to play in Sweden? for Counter Strike that is.

Dreamhack will have a CS 1.6 tournament with several recognized teams attending, such as EG, MYM, SK, mTw, H2k, coL and several others. We won't be covering the CS competition, but Cadred will. The groups are listed http://www.cadred.org/News/Article/84703/.

Actually Swedish television SVT is gonna cover the event Friday and Saturday on the web. check this out and add to the coverage maybe?
