page 1: Introduction

When compared with the Netherlands, Germany or France, Belgium has always had some trouble in the past with organizing qualifiers for international events. In 2008 however, it seems Belgium has finally caught up with its neighbour countries. This year the Belgian ESWC qualifier will be organized by Gamevibes and LowLandLions. The managers behind these established names have proven their organizational talent time and again. Wsquared, the organisation behind several Dutch qualifiers, have offered their expertise and will overlook the qualifier.

In the year that Belgium sees a remarkable qualifier, the two games that will be played happen to be the two games that kicked off professional gaming for most people: Counter-strike 1.6 and Quake3. Sixteen teams and sixteen players will have the chance to qualify for the prestigious LAN finals at the Antwerp E-sports Festival on the 25th of July. The Antwerp eSports Festival, the setting for the Belgian qualifier, is the new 50,000 € tournament organized by Gamevibes in the Hilton in Antwerp.

The online qualifiers will be played on the 21st and 28th of June. The best four counter-strike 1.6 teams and the best four Quake3 players will then battle it out at the AEF in hopes of defending the Belgian colours in San Jose, California. This is where the ESWC grand finals will be played this year, a major change from previous years as the finals were always in France.

The ESWC, one of the most well-known brands in electronic sports and has an impressive track record. This year will be their sixth event and it will have 800 video game champions from all over the world competing for the title of world champion in their respective game. The finals will be held in three different locations in San Jose from the 25th until the 27th of August.  Thousands of visitors will witness the thrill of seeing the best players in the world compete against each other. Organizing spectacular finals is one of the ESWC’s strong points and it will be no different this year.

Yeah, I can understand your frustrations. I don't know what happened but everybody was complaining, even TEK9. I hope the servers are better next week (if we make it :p).

I've changed it to a 16-7 win for you. At this moment, there are a lot of questions to the admins but they weren't online anymore. I hope the answers come soon...

Why would that be? I just heard that both teams agreed to play that match on the 28th of july.

Idd nick, but the 1/4 finales are played on 28th of July?

So Tek9 and XIOP will know there opponent 5min before the start of their match, not knowing which map the oppo will pick. I can imagine that both teams want to prepare for such an important match?

You just have to train all the maps. I guess, like in any other tournament, that you only know your opponent's pick a few minutes before the match actually starts. That's fair for everybody; and it doesn't harm anyone if myLegend and ethereaL are still playing a decider match before the quarter-finals.
#33 Sweden dfiance.cran0r 2008-06-23 12:23:24
But that's on lan, now you have a whole week and the other teams already know there opponent. Who says they didn't agree to choose the maps early on? If they want a tournament style they should of played the match on Saturday 23.59 when all the groupstage matches were finished. It just seems weird to give a whole week and not allow teams to prepare themselfs.
#34 Belgium TeXx 2008-06-23 12:23:26
tb that tek9 & LLL will face eachother in the 1/2 final..

#38 Belgium XIOPfAzziee 2008-06-23 18:18:43
it doesnt matter if they meet in the semi finals or in the grand finals, they will face each other anyway.. ;)
#39 Belgium tek9.Mutz 2008-06-23 18:26:52

Not that new as you might think, but doesn't even matter. Especially when you say you're not the one with a disadvantage, there is no reason to act like that. Especially your comment on the LLL website is far from correct (and I know this from the right sources xD)

Anyway, gl all teams, the real competition starts now

I'm really sorry for pointing out an error...
I'm not talking about which teams faces which team in semis or final. I just think it's unfair that 4 team can pracc a whole week for the bracketmatches knowing which maps they'll be playing and other 4 teams who don't even know who they'll be facing. Sorry for trying to be fair, I'll never try it again :)

Yes, single elimination in a best-of-three type.

I don't understand, Starlan send CS1.6 cs female Trackmania Quake Warcaft players to ESWC, where are the trouble when L3 is only send their players to ESWC ?

There have always been money issues for the last years. I truly believe that Starlan did a great job, but it got harder and harder for them. I'm grateful for their efforts in the last years but I'm also grateful towards L3 and Gamevibes because it isn't easy with a tournament being held in the USA instead of France.

That's the difference: USA <-> France
